Hey everyone, I am new to the TGC tours world, just started playing a few months ago. Looking forward to playing in tournaments and designing new courses. I have created and published my first course The Four Horsemen Jack Daniels Course. Would like some reviews and feed back on this course as I am starting my second course.
Hope y’all enjoy the course and hear back.

Always helps to include photos of your work here. Also, not sure if you've seen the design tutorials, but there's quite a few from top designers on here and are a great way to learn basic, intermediate, and advanced techniques!

I have been watching a lot of videos on YouTube and twitch learning how to do things in the designer. I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Do I need to make a new thread, or can I add pictures to this one?

You'll need to use image hosting, photobucket, imgbb, to host your images and link from there. I use BBC but there be another way.

Do I need to make a new thread, or can I add pictures to this one? I suggest editing your first post and editing the title to be the name of the course. Then just add images here.

This is not a joke of a first course. Very solid all around. Only thing I saw was a 9 box violation on hole 2 pin 1. We try not to place pins on severe slopes (yellow or red) and each of the 8 squares surrounding the pin also should be free of severe slopes. This was the only occurance though so likely just an oversight

Also the game starred out the semen in HorSEMEN. A shame really, maybe put a space in there?

Any one you all play on Xbox, I'm his brother and also new to the game and designing. The reason I ask, taking screenshots is a little more difficult. Probably just going to have to use our phones and take pictures and post them that way. I'll be making a thread soon as well.

Probably just going to have to use our phones and take pictures and post them that way. I'll be making a thread soon as well. I normally just take screenshots by pressing the Xbox button then the Y button. I try to do it during the flyover so there's less of the Hud stuff on view. Then I'll upload it to Xbox live and then on my phone just go to XboxClips.com and search for my username there and you'll get your screenshots there. Just select your screenshot then press on it and select copy link address. Then head over to this site go into desktop view and post through that so you can insert your image.

You need Imgur and the Xbox DVR hub in your life. Both apps freely available. Any screenshots you take will appear on your DVR hub, from there you share them to Imgur. From Imgur you copy the BB code of your picture and your images will appear in the thread here. Look at my thread for Marwood Golf Club, all those images were done this way from Xbox.

Solid first effort but I didn't enjoy this one personally.
I found the greens too slow at ~140. Also, the greens were too big for my liking where it would have been easy for there to be 100+ foot puttsl for instance, I can see what you were aiming at with the long par 5 but the approach could have been achieved with fairway rather than an enormous green.
Generally I found the greens to have too much slope. It seemed that a design goal was to punish bad putts and that was definitely achieved but the green contours didn't reward good approaches (i.e., on 18 the tier could have guided the ball toward the hole but actually ran the ball off the back). Nothing much to look at on the way around but there were a couple of memorable holes. It seemed that on some holes, you were using fairway contours to guide the ball to a position that gave a good view of the green and that was a nice touch but the slope you used to achieve that was too steep, meaning that the approach in to the green was from a punishing lie. I feel like this same effect could have been achived with a gentler, longer slope.
Overall seemed like there was a lot of smoothing needed - lots of jagged edges. There was a spline issue on 15 ( link). I didn't see the secondary surface being used a lot but unsure how much of that was a design decision.
Welcome to TGCT and good luck on your journey. It's pretty cool you have your brother to playtest for you!

I really appreciate the feed back. I agree the green sizes got away from me on this one, in my next course I’m making those adjustments. With this being my first course, I don’t take anything to heart, I know I have a lot to learn in aspect of designing and figuring out how to do things in the designer. So far my biggest challenge is getting the slops to level out some but still provide a challenge. Having my brother able to play test, definitely helps! Thank you for your time in playing my course and sending me a review and feed back!

Hey puppet, my first course was similar in that the feedback I got was my greens were inconsistent and too small To assist with your next course I suggest the following. I select measure tool and hover over the default applied green grid and mark from diagonal corner of the grid to the opposite diagonal corner of the green grid. A large “X” effectively which will help you get the scale right. It is a 40yd line from side to side from memory. You don’t have to fill it but it will help you get them consistent.

I’m on my 14th course and I still have a lot of improvements and learning opportunities. That’s the great thing with the tools and community, you will find your designing niche and it will take some time. Feel free to ask around for any specifics.
My best advice is to design what you like. There will be tons of opinions on what makes a great course. At the end of the day you want to design for you, and if others like it that’s just a bonus!
