For background on why this course was re-created, please see the OP here: tgctours.proboards.com/thread/16982/lakes-devon-quarry
Welcome to the Lakes @ Devon Quarry, the latest course from Nesbit Golf Management in association with the Dirty Ankle Mafia. Golfers familiar with the original design, Devon Quarry Country Club, will be pleasantly surprised by this complete remake of the course, which was stripped all the way down to the macro sculpting layer and totally re-surfaced, re-bunkered, re-sculpted, and re-pin-set. There is not a single thing on this course that was present in the first design other than the overall plot configuration, and in fact, the memorable quarry attribute on hole 8 has been taken to a completely new level. Likewise, there are seven holes that altered from their original routing, some of them rather significantly, and nearly all of the holes were modified in terms of tee location relative to landing zone to accommodate the 285-yard carry now available with masters clubs in TGC2019. All-in-all, this is a radically different course with an eerily familiar vibe.
One of the characteristics of the new design that is sure to be noticed is that it is now a PGA-level design, not only in the difficulty off the tee, but in the challenge on the greens. As I have done more courses in the game I have settled on a contouring style for my greens that I enjoy, which is the need for strategically thinking about your angle of approach on the way in. Many pins on this version can be nestled up to if you're careful, but get yourself out of position around the green complexes and you're in for a tough par. One of my inspirations in the community is Rob Wilson (rjwils30 ) in this regard, who makes some of the most fun greens (and best courses) I've ever played on in this game, so although my greens aren't as 'organically' placed within the soil as his are, I hope he finds them enjoyable. I'd like to invite all of you to leave feedback below about the greens specifically so that I can continue to improve in my future designs.
Although Devon Quarry Country Club was loved by many, and HB even thought it deserved a spot in the official course rotation in TGC2019, I genuinely hope that you all enjoy this new version. As a designer with evolving skills, I could see many things in the original that I was no longer happy with because I felt my abilities in the course designer software had improved beyond the first design, so I want to thank Dale Burger (coruler2 ) for encouraging me to re-do this course. I also want to thank my Dirty Ankle Mafia crew, who I respect greatly for their own unique abilities in the designer, for helping me play-test the betas and get this ready for the community! Shout out to Terry Grayson , toddfather , TreeWood , mattf27 , PithyDoctorG , and CiB0RG for their help and friendship!
I'm hoping to have a side-by-side comparison video of all 18 flyovers to add to the thread soon. I'm working with the talented gdog on this project, so keep an eye out for that in the coming days!
Enjoy, and please don't hesitate to leave feedback below, even if you hate the new version and prefer the original, all opinions are appreciated.
