With all the talk about waiting for winds, I have a question. I've heard talk of global wind and how the winds should be set up, as far as gusts, but what really governs the winds in TGC. I asked this over at the HB forums, but I also had a suggestion at the same time. Why can't the winds be set to average wind speeds, for say where the golf course is located? Or is this what they mean by "global " winds ? I did some checking and average winds aren't really that high, probably in the 4 - 12 mph range. So you make a course where the local winds are say 8 mph. You eenter that when you publish a course and then the game applies the dynamic which varies the wind from 8 mph, so If the dynamic changed the winds +/- 4 mph the wind would range from 4 to 12 mph. and they would be accurate for where the golf course was.

The courses/tournaments at least for the time being have no control on the wind. That's the primary issue. It's all determined on the HB server side... so it's constantly changing. If it were controlled by the tournament creator, that would be ideal, and would eliminate the whole wind waiting thing. Now, from the official forums, it seems as though this is something they are looking at. So there is reason to be hopeful.

The most ideal thing is to put wind option in the course creator, speed range and direction range

The most ideal thing is to put wind option in the course creator, speed range and direction range It would be super helpful when creating courses to be able to see how things played out under varying wind conditions. Would eliminate a lot of unfair situations that arise under certain wind conditions like unreachable fairways and doglegs that don't play properly etc.

But what are the winds based on. If its global winds, what are those based on ? I think the course creators should be putting the winds in themselves based on where the course is. HB could make up a chart based on real conditions, and use average wind speeds for that area. Can someone explain the dynamic part of the winds ? what is it based on ?

The most ideal thing is to put wind option in the course creator, speed range and direction range Lorin just posted this.... What we are investigating now (and I am not saying we can do this) is not allowing tourney creators to set the wind...but separating it from regular play, randomly setting it ourselves for each round of a tourney when the tourney is published and then having it stay within 1-3 mph of that initial wind for everyone playing that round at whatever point they play it (there would still be gusts though). That is what we are currently investigating to see if we can do it. If we did this, playing outside of a tourney (as in 'Play Round') would remain exactly as it is now. Now if they can get this working the way he has stated it will be a huge step in the right direction good on HB for listening and trying to get things to work for us "BRAVO"<Golf clap>Here's hoping it works out

I really hope they can do it. Sounds like they are trying to come up with a workable solution that 'fits' with what they currently have. And it sounds like it would be almost ideal for what we are looking for.
It would be nice for designers to be able to control wind within the GNCD at some point... for being able to pull up different winds on demand and test their courses out. And I do think course designers should be able to set a 'prevailing' wind direction... but maybe those are too big of asks at this stage.
For now, I would be thrilled if they could do what Lorin posted... and I think it would make tournament play even more exciting to be completely honest.

Sounds like a perfect compromise between the requested functionality and the current system

That would be a perfect solution. I am just very happy they are not planning any changes to the global wind system outside of tournaments. I love the current random global wind system.

My sentiments exactly...perfect solution for the tournaments and for non-tournaments. Maybe we will get lucky and it will be an easy fix and in the Feb update
