Hi all,
This is my first season here at TGCT Tours and still relatively new to this game. I played Q-school with Master Clubs, using DW, 3W, 4i-9i, PW, GW, LW, putter. I had fun but really shot badly at St Bedes, mostly due to my putting. Played better at the Mountain and best round was -8, twice. I then made the mistake of switching to Beginner Clubs for the first tourney in CC-F and putting 2W and a load of hybrids in my bag. I shot -28, which is still not very good compared to most others, but more importantly: I did not enjoy playing Beginner Clubs. I simply played way too fast because keeping it in the blue part of the swing circle is too easy. I just could not concentrate on what I was doing, completely lost focus and my rounds got worse and worse.
Therefore, I have decided to switch back to Master Clubs again and just stick with them and learn and get better as time progresses, not caring about being in CC-F for a long time or even dropping down. However, I am doubting which clubs I should put in my bag. The standard 3W and irons set-up? Put in the 2W? Have some hybrids in there?
So, can anyone help me out: what clubs should I put in and why?
Thanks for any tips on this,
Frans

Well you should start by having 14 clubs (since your post says you only have 12)......

Hehe.
The simple answer is to try and get all gaps covered as best you can - you will have to leave a gap somewhere - so what is most important for you - having all short yardages covered (0-205 which you do with the full set of irons up to 4i) and then having some areas in the 210-250 range difficult to hit exactly, or having a gap somewhere else.
If it helps, my set up is (Masters clubs):
D 2W 3H (the one that goes 233 - can't remember if that is 2 or 3H?) 3i 5i-9i All four wedges.
My only difficult yardages are 205-215 (between 5i and 3i) and about 228-240 (between 3i and hybrid)
From 200+, normally happy to hit it within 20ft - so those gaps don't matter as much as missing out a short club.
(I'm on PGA for reference)

Thanks Robin, makes sense. I'm not nearly good enough to worry about trying to get it close from long distance, so yes, I probably should not worry about that and focus on covering all distances with the shorter clubs!

I’ve took the hybrids out of my set although they hit straighter it’s difficult shortening the distance unless you use partial swings.

Yep. I agree.
I have a 2W and 2H in mine.
D, 2W, 2H, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, SW, LW.
Mirrors my real life bag. However, "my" 2W is a strong 3. 😊😊

Thanks guys! I have now changed my bag to: DW, 2W, 2H, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, GW, SW, LW, putter (give me a second while I count, ... , yep, that's 14)
I have practiced two rounds at the course we will be playing in CC-F next week: Steamshovel. Master Clubs: -4 Pro Clubs: -8
I am still doubting whether I will use Master or Pro, but the club selection in my bag definitely feels much better now: never felt like I was looking for a club I didn't have in the bag. Actually could get on the green on pretty much all holes in regulation; my putting is just still pretty bad, so left about 5-6 shots out there in both rounds. Still fun though and much better than the Beginner rounds I played earlier this week with all the hybrids in the bag.
Thanks again, Frans

I'd suggest ironing everything out with Pros while you try to move up to CC-Pro. Once you've got the confidence in your swing...start "practicing" the Pro events and compare where you would rank using Masters I'm in CC-B right now down from the PGA and top 150 WGR in the last game. Get your bearings...gain your confidence...make your climb. Trust me...I once was in CC-Z. I know the trail

Another pga member here happy to share my bag. The 2w is an obvious choice, why would you restrict your distance unnecessarily? All wedges, grudgingly, 9i through 5i, 5h, 3i,1i, 2w. Those clubs combined with 95 percenters and fast backswings cover everything for me.
Not sure if I'm remembering that right but close enough

You can hit your driver off the deck from fairway in this version and it goes pretty well.
