I struggled horribly with masters clubs, until I did 2 things.
Practiced with the metronome as posted earlier and I changed my grip. I had always used the fat part of my right thumb on top of the stick. But then I started just using tip of my thumb, then you just pull back and lightly flick it forward. And BOOM! I went from +4-+7 per round to -8 and -10. You have much more control this way. It really works!
I will be glad to go into more detail if you like.

I was watching Irving one time on twitch and noticed he was holding his controller( I refer to it mine as my club) perpendicular. I tried it and it helped, however, I'm still trying to find "THE" position sometimes I tilt backward, forward, sideways. I'm too old to stand on my head. When I hit a P/P center there is a certain sound I hear from my PS4 controller back/front kind of like the metronome timing if that makes any sense and its perfect every time problem is consistency. I going to try some of the Ideas from this thread, can't hurt LOL!
thanks, john left thump left stick

Hold it with both hands . Float my index finger and thumb between the right stick ( have longest stick for elite controller) then start swing with finger and switch down with thumb. So it's a two part swing. Have been doing it this way since the analog swing came to Tiger.
My biggest issue is pushing the stick to the right. So I always played the fade in 2 but now it really doesn't matter as much because tempo overrides swing plane.
I play with the shot feedback off but I know I mostly get fast perfect or fast fast so my miss tends to be long.

Just wanted to update since I finally got to play since I posted this.
I tried to continue with just the thumb on the left stick and tilt the controller back as I stated the backswing. No dice.
So I tried the 2 finger grip on the left stick (I tried it on the right stick but had a tough time putting). MUCH improved. I move the stick a little bit forward and then start my swing. Tempo is much better but sometimes the line gets a little squirrelly. I felt so confident that I even moved back up to Master clubs.
It doesn't help I'm doing a swing transformation at St. Bedes.

Chess piece grip.
I use the left joystick with my right hand. My left hand holds the left side of the controller in a standard grip. The side of my right palm makes contact with the controller, giving my right hand some stability.
My right thumb and pointer finger grip the left joystick at 6:30 and 12:30.
Any other grip and I wouldn’t break 100.

Just curious, what do you set the metronome bps at?
I actually thought I was doing it your way, until I just now picked up the controller and held it, and realized I've got the fat part of my thumb on the stick instead of the tip. Since today is just a practice day, I may try it just to see how it feels. I tried the way Larry did it and I was all over the place! haha.

Mediocre at the game... But here is how I grip, and have since the original xbox TW games. I have long fingers, and hold it between my middle and ring fingers, so I can rotate my thumb, and only move my thumbnail, the joint where it connects to the hand is silent. Excuse the ugly bump on my thumb, freaking getting old...

I tried this weekend to use my thumb and index finger to move the right stick, as opposed to my thumb only, which I had been doing.
I found that using the thumb and index finger, I can control the straightness a lot better. But..if tempo gets off, it is harder (for me at least) to regain/control the tempo this way. Using thumb only, I can get the tempo, but have trouble getting the up/down line to go straight.

PS4 - right handed but use left stick. I hold the left side of controller tight with thumb and pointer finger looks like a C shape with other fingers wrapped around left handle, and use the pinch method with right, feels like I try to swing 12:30 to 6:30. I'm a mediocre ball striker though, thankfully a decent scrambler.

This has been a really interesting read, I felt I wasn't a bad player doing left stick with left thumb (what I thought was conventional till reading this!) and I can get round the course OK in Master Clubs - hit about 80% of greens and fairways and chip / putt well - typically shoot -6 to -10,
The problem is since joining TGC Tours I have seen everyone blowing the lights out with Master Clubs, so much so that I've switched to Pro Clubs for my first event. Sure enough I kicked off with 61 and 62 to lead a CC event but I'm conscious I need to perfect Master Clubs to play Web.Com and higher which I'd love to do.
It seems that the guys at the top have developed pretty unique methods to gain perfection, it also seems that PS4 controllers have less dispersion based on data from Q-School; 80% plays 63% in favour of PS4 over XBox.
I've watched a few videos of guys playing online and it almost seems impossible to swing as straight as that unless the controllers are modified or there's bigger deadspots?
I guess I'll have to keep experimenting to find that perfect method (and probably buy a PS4...)

64-66 bpm Holy crap. Just went on the range with a metronome playing on my phone and it has improved my swing tremendously. Thanks for the tip!

How you guys use just solely your thumb or much less the left joystick instead of the right joystick is beyond me but then again I guess everyone has their own unique way of doing it, I think you will always get the best results of what feels comfortable to you.
I plant a firm grip on the back of the controller with my left hand and half of my right hand as I use both my thumb AND index finger to take the stick back and then flick forward keeping both perfectly in line to create a straight swing *Just the way I have always done it*
