I've got a lot of fine detail work, planting, and sculpting remaining. My to do and final checklist is still pretty long, but I figure while I'm working on those, I should be soliciting feedback. So I've published "AIBC Beta." I'm hoping a few of you will play it, get into some places I've never been in my playtesting, and tell me about it here.
I hope you enjoy what's here and please know that it's still a work in progress.

I played the beta and enjoyed the look and style. I didn't find too many issues off the tee...I think I hit every fairway from the blacks. But it was difficult to get near a lot of the pins as the greens are very undulated and some pins were quite difficult to get near. All of the teeth on this course was in the approaches and putts for me. The no fringe look as a little jarring for me as it transitioned straight from FW to green...but it doesn't take away from the gameplay. I like all of the open sightlines as you can see all the danger without use of the camera.

The whole idea of this course is to hopefully be played without scout cam for the most realistic experience. In that vein, the "look hard; play easy" from the tee was my goal. Lots of width means very few fairway misses, but depending on the pin locations, there is always a better side or area of the fairway to play from. Sometimes laying back will give you a better angle or a flatter lie than just bombing out there with driver simply because you can. And the greens were always intended to be the defense. They are very large but have lots of false edges and steep slopes with unpinnable area. Many times, aiming away from the flag will catch a slope and feed towards one. Very few pins in the middle of greens, but there are lots of pins in punchbowls and on pretty flat areas that fall off on 2 or more sides. There is one pin on the back nine, where it is impossible to get within 30 feet if you land it on the green, but if you land it short and run it up, you can get within 3-5 feet almost every single time. I know most players won't pick up on these things right away but hopefully that will add to the replay value when it's done. If anyone else plays, please let me know which tee/pin set you played and what your wind conditions were like. Thanks again for leaving some feedback!

MAJORHIGH The original idea was exactly the photos you posted. I was inspired when I went to play Seaside at Sea Island about a month ago. The only problem is exactly as you discussed...the planting required is insane. The other issue is the pop-in of grasses doesn't make the course look right from afar. In the original layout I sketched on paper, I had the back nine weaving in and out of a marsh with some tidal creeks. But when I started to build it, it just became abundantly clear that that look wasn't really possible in a way that I would have been happy with. So I went with the look I have now, which still has lots of high grasses, but most of them are planted within view of certain areas and I abstained elsewhere to hopefully keep the FPS smooth across the board. Trying to use some restraint but still get the look I want.

Just played the beta (pin 1 in 15-20 mph wind). Very well designed holes and bold, creative green complexes. My round had lots of birdies and lots of bogies, which I think is a good thing. You may want to tone down a few of the red slopes a couple notches, though. For example, on 18 I had an eagle putt up the slope, didn't hit it hard enough, and the ball went behind me (not that that's illegal or anything, just a suggestion).

Thank you for playing and leaving a note! Much appreciated. 15 and 18 greens both gonna get some TLC due to feedback. Thanks again.
