In NHL 17, there was no "Season Mode" but, instead, only "Franchise Mode", but it had a lot of options you could set to get the experience you wanted. You could basically turn off all of the Owner options and set many of the GM tasks to Auto, and then be left with a basic multi-season mode with trading/drafting. I played through the 2028-2029 season in Franchise mode with all GM and Owner tasks enabled, while simulating almost all the games, until I finally drove the Arizona Coyotes to the Stanley Cup. I'm a little more than half way through my rookie season in Be A Pro mode. Not being able to pick up where I left off is going to be a dealbreaker for me. One of my main complaints is, at the beginning of Be A Pro mode, the NHL Draft doesn't change based on when you get drafted. It turned out good for me because I ended up centering a line between Blake Wheeler and Patrick Laine, but it's a little weird that the Jets weren't forced to pass on Laine to select me instead. Anyway, in NHL 19, EA says it changed the skating so that you don't overskate when changing direction nearly as often, and puck pick-ups should be successful more often. It's always been a frustrating experience trying to actually play zone defense - especially if you set your defense system to Staggered. Will never ever be a fan of those desert dogs. They are dead to me. And... they can give us back our history anytime now! 😜

With hockey starting and me skipping NHL 18 I was feeling the urge for some video game hockey. Disc version happened to be $30 off this week so it felt like a good time to jump in. Kind of excited to get going, especially with all the young Bruins who weren't around back in NHL 17. On PS4 in case anyone else has or eventually gets this.

The outdoor games and 3v3 games are fun. The rest seems pretty much the same.

They really haven't altered much of anything in the series this whole gen. A new game mode here and there but the basic gameplay has really felt the same since NHL 15. The changes that are there I appreciate more after taking a year off though.

You're right boffo, as far as gameplay there really hasn't been much altered in years. Only do the online team play so the joke was that we had to pay $90 every year for new menu screens.
But they did finaly add a few more things. Really like the custom load outs you can make. It's a pretty good balance.
So many little they could add to make things better though:
-showing the team we're playing records after we ready up and what we are head to head
-easy rematch option
-played this mode ever since it came out and still don't understand the playoff schedule. It's like every 29 days than lasts somthing like 3 days. Weird.
-be nice to edit and customize your AI players when you dont have a full squad. Also fixing the defenseman who skates into your own goalie thats been going for 4 years would be a nice change.
Overall it is a slight improvement i guess.

Good to see that people who play this online are as mature and classy as ever. In my drop-in EASHL game I was playing against Dick Cumshot and Im A!%$#. It served as a quick reminder why I don't play any game online all that often. Plus I lost my connection half way through.
