The beta for NHL 19 is now out on the PlayStation store. Hoping this game has turned the corner as 18 was such a disappointment . Check it out !

Used to buy the series every other year to avoid burnout and to make it feel like a bit more than a few tweaks and a roster update. However, due to PS+ discounts making the games super cheap I ended up with NHL's 13 through 17 across the PS3 and PS4. Now I'm at the point where the series just feels stale to me and I had no desire to play 18 even once it got super cheap. I'll give the demo a try but I'm not expecting anything all that revolutionary.

Not a good start when I'm looking for something to break the staleness and you get greeted by the exact same main menu music they've used for years. Gameplay still feels pretty much the same as it has for years and being forced to play with randoms still sucks because the majority of online sports players are still total jerkwads. Probably will play a bit more during the beta but I won't be rushing out to buy this one anytime that soon.

Gave it a go last night. It's a little more arcadish but not a whole lot different. Have played with the same full squad in eashl for last 6-7 years? and still play weekly so have no interest in all other modes. But will be interesting to see what you can do with your player as its seems to have a few more customisable features.
Weirdly enough someone jacked our team name lol. Had that held down for a better part of a decade! You'd think we'd be able just to keep our team name and stats for each new year so we could see our historical records...but I guess that's still not happening.

Played my second game of ones and we were tied 1-1-1. With one second left I scored to not only take the win but to also finally find a way to get other players to not quit just because they're losing.

Always more fun to play this stuff online when you're able to play with people you "know". Even if most of our wins came against teams that quit if we actually managed to score first.

Found once you get to the higher the divisions teams rarely quit unless you get up 4 or 5 goals. Could be though there's just die-hards left playing right now too.

I play in LG, well I did, gave 18 a pass so I sat out the cycle. I play LD. As d in this beta it feels way more responsive. Vision control though could still be better, but other than that it’s pretty solid. Haven’t had a chance to play a club game though so I have had to endure the drop in and those stupid parkas. If you have room I wouldn’t mind playing with you

Is it possible with NHL 19 that I can just pick a team and play a complete scheduled season by myself? The earlier games you use to be able to do this. the reason i'm asking is I'm not interested in any of the online stuff.

Thanks for the reply titaneddie, I might get this years game then once I'm 100% sure about the season mode.

In NHL 17, there was no "Season Mode" but, instead, only "Franchise Mode", but it had a lot of options you could set to get the experience you wanted. You could basically turn off all of the Owner options and set many of the GM tasks to Auto, and then be left with a basic multi-season mode with trading/drafting.
I played through the 2028-2029 season in Franchise mode with all GM and Owner tasks enabled, while simulating almost all the games, until I finally drove the Arizona Coyotes to the Stanley Cup.
I'm a little more than half way through my rookie season in Be A Pro mode. Not being able to pick up where I left off is going to be a dealbreaker for me. One of my main complaints is, at the beginning of Be A Pro mode, the NHL Draft doesn't change based on when you get drafted. It turned out good for me because I ended up centering a line between Blake Wheeler and Patrick Laine, but it's a little weird that the Jets weren't forced to pass on Laine to select me instead.
Anyway, in NHL 19, EA says it changed the skating so that you don't overskate when changing direction nearly as often, and puck pick-ups should be successful more often. It's always been a frustrating experience trying to actually play zone defense - especially if you set your defense system to Staggered.
