Hello I just picked up TGC2 this afternoon after playing the Tiger Woods and Rory Series over the years. Thought I was prepared for what was to come and clearly I was wrong, I played the worst round of golf in a video game i've ever played. My swing was all over the place and the ball seemed to just be going wherever it wanted regardless of the swing.
I am in need of some tips to help make the swing process easier on me and improve my overall game.
Thanks all.

1.) Make a decision on what clubs to use! I never touched anything else than Tour Clubs. I wanted to start on the hardest level and grind my way through that. But maybe you wanna start with easier clubs in the beginning, especially if you can't keep it inside the cone at all. 2.) Watch as many good players on Twitch as you can. I learned the most there back in the days. 3.) Get your distances right. Play/Practice with different loft options and so on. I was a master of this in TGC1, but with TGC2 I refused to play with that for a long time. When I finally started (again) to do this, I managed my way back up to the World Tour. 4.) Check this sub-forum for further tips. Many topics we already had here over and over again. Good luck!

Good tips from Thomas above... but also be warned -- if you didn't know -- TGC 2019 comes out at the end of August, or thereabouts, and will feature a somewhat re-worked swing mode. Regardless, working hard on developing a feel with distances, rollouts, putting, etc. is only going to help you hit the ground running when '19 gets released.

Yeah I realized very quickly Tour Clubs were too much for me. Once i went back to standard the feel was much better. I will just have to work on getting that down and then gradually moving the difficulty on the clubs up a notch.

I could go on about what kind of works and what doesn’t but rather than do that I will say this instead.
For each person it is different. With most games you start off terrible and then you get better and normally master them.
With TGC it’s different in my experience.
You start off bad and in some cases you get a bit better, some cases you get good and then there is the people who absolutely master it and smash out ridiculous scores every week.
Long story short - there seems to be no absolute method, I still haven’t worked out what the World your players do that sets them apart. I have played 100s of hours and I can’t get better than I am now.
Just watch some streams, practise by playing every tour every week and good luck.

As you mentioned in your original post, the learning curve is quite a bit steeper in TGC, but the satisfaction you get from carding a really good round is that much more enjoyable. The game isn't perfect... there are some glitches, but overall it's the closest thing to a true golf sim there's ever been imo. If you haven't already done so, check out the Courses tab, and start exploring some of the hundreds of fantastic high-quality courses from our design community.

For sure going to be getting my practice in. Wish I didn't do my 1st round of Q school with the tour clubs though. Kinda ruined my chances to get anywhere. But yeah what sold me was the hundreds of unique courses created by the community and even the real world courses that people take time to create for the game. TGC has a very bright future.

Don't sweat a bad round in Q-School. It's no where near being the litmus test of where you will fall once you start playing tournaments for real. You'll eventually settle into the tour you belong.

However, probably the worst issue you will come across is the tempo, which seems to have a mind of it's own. I've had so many good rounds ruined by this anomaly, that I have decided to cut-back on the number of tournaments I usually play, and wait for TGC 2019 to emerge. Having said that, this is still the best golf game I've ever played, and if the issues with the tempo and chipping ever get sorted out, then we're in for a cracker.

The driving range is your friend. You can also change the swing to inverted . I set mine to inverted and when I am playing well I get a slight fade. You need eliminate one side of the course like real golf. For me it is the left side. So if I miss it it usually right because my swing is on inverted. Might not work for you depending on how you swing the stick so you have to mess with it.
Also just like real golf your swing will come and go. The key is to be able to correct it mid round.

Another tip is to look at the ball when you swing. I forget to do it myself but it does help. Keep your head down!

What I do to try get my tempo right is take a couple of practice swings first. Basically all I do is swing back then just let the stick go, I count the swing as I hit the top of my backswing, so it's swing, 1, swing, 2, swing, 3 hit. I'll look at my pad a couple of times before it hit to make sure I'm swinging straight. A lot of it is just feel though, it's the same as loft and wind just find a system that you can use for these and adjust it as you learn.
On putting and my short game shots I just use my thumb as most of the time I'm not pulling back as much and find that I can shoot straighter this way.

Another tip is to look at the ball when you swing. I forget to do it myself but it does help. Keep your head down! This is a part of it where everyone is different and there isn't a right way to do it. People just need to find what works for them. For me, I look down at my controller for the back swing then look up and - in my mind's eye using my real eyes - I swing through the middle of the aim circle on screen. I used to look at the controller completely after I had learned the timing of the swing for the tempo but I seem to get more consistent straight swings when I look up for the down swing. But again, this is an area where everyone is different, just like how we hold the controller or what we use to swing the stick (I use my left thumb even though I'm right handed).

He was asking for tips right? I gave him a tip. I get everyone is different but it might help. Maybe it won't.
When I get lessons from my pro I take from it what I want. If I did everything he said I would not even be able to hit the ball.
