Real course recreation here. This is the course I grew up with and learned to play on, so it holds sentimental value to me. I am only a few holes in but I am having so much fun and it is turning into an unhealthy obsession. I’m sure some of you can relate. I would like to see how you all think I’m doing so far. Any feedback is appreciated. These first two holes are not complete, but I just wanted to share my progress after the first few days of work.
I just sort of randomly found out about TGC2 this past weekend, so I am still learning a whole lot about the course creator. I haven't quite mastered it yet, but I'm improving.
Quick Stats:
9 Holes
2 Par Threes
8 Par Fours
1 Par Five
Total Yardage: 3,166 (From Blues)
It is a short course and I’m concerned it may be too easy. Hopefully it will still be fun at any rate. The greens are legitimately challenging so I am trying to recreate that as faithfully as possible in the game without being too hard. I am sticking to the 8 square rule. No fairway bunkers either, but water does pose a good threat on several holes. I am using google maps as a guide, but I know the course so well I can see it very clearly in my mind. So far I’m pretty happy with how it’s turning out - I really do feel like I’m there again.
Course Background
Nestled between corn fields and pastures of grazing cattle, Carrollton Country Club provides a much-needed outlet of leisure to the residents of Carroll County, Missouri, as well as attracting visitors from all around. This short 9-hole course boasts wide fairways and challenging greens. Watch out for those trees, though. You’ll notice the pin oaks and elms lining almost every hole. Perfect for beginners and experienced golfers alike, Carrollton Country Club is one of the most beautiful and well-maintained courses in rural Northwestern Missouri.
The country club holds regular summer events such as men’s and women’s leagues, community sponsored tournaments, and hosts the local high school golf team. On a typical summer day, you’ll find the course mostly open as long as there are no tournaments in progress. No tee times are necessary, just jump in when the number one green is clear!
So bring your sunscreen, bug spray and a cooler (no refreshment cart in service), and we’ll see you out there!
Some pics of the real course (photo credit - mogolftour.com):
Clubhouse and #1 tee. Notice blue tees behind retaining wall.
View of #9 green from #1 tee. One of those cart sheds is ours.
#3 green with #6 green in background.
Main pond and #3 green.
#1 - Par 3
Try not to think too much about the fact that everyone in the clubhouse is watching you as you tee off on this straightforward par three. Hitting from above the green, do your best to avoid the bunkers flanking each side. Veer off to the left and you risk hitting the cart path and landing among the trees; go right or short and you’ll find yourself whacking uphill. Once on the green, get a first taste of the fast and difficult putts you will grow accustomed to at CCC.
Landscaping and cart path still needs work but I am liking how this is turning out.
#2 - Par 4
Try to hug the right hand side of the fairway as you hit over a gentle but impressive hill. Doglegging to the right, this is a short par four that should give you some confidence going into number three. Just don’t hit your drive too far, or you may end up in the pond. Good fishing here, by the way.
Not as far along as #1 but it has potential. Need to bring in the right edge of the fairway as well as more landscaping. Approach and green not even ready for WIP screenshots...
So... stay tuned. I plan to keep this thread updated as I progress. I am thinking of eventually publishing this as two courses - the 9 hole original and a full 18 with a fictional back nine, with hopes of hosting a TGCT event. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.
