A great question came up on one of the other threads, so I wanted to pull it out of there and create a separate dialogue for it. I'll answer the question from my perspective as a facilitator of the contest, but that doesn't mean my answer is the "right" answer or the "only" way to do it. That's actually the beauty of this contest... you can create whatever strategy you feel is best for you to have a shot at winning. Here's the question:
"Im not sure if im doing a WIP thread... is there any advantage to keeping cards close to the chest or is it better to have a WIP thread so your team knows the level of quality of your course?"
To be honest, I see advantages to both philosophies due to the rules of this contest. In the first two rounds, there will be an advantage to your team if you win your matchups because there will be opportunities for immunity, not only for the player who just won, but for others too (full rules for round 1 will be posted soon). Therefore, showing your WIP would definitely allow your team captain to gain confidence in your work knowing that you could win your matchup and help the team. However, the other side of that coin is this: the first round matchups won't take place until after the courses are published, so the team captains could potentially play through the courses anyway if they had the time, thus allowing them to know who to put forth in the matchups. But keep in mind, this comes at the point at which all courses are finished and no modifications can be made at that point. SO, if you keep your cards close to your chest during the WIP phase before publishing, you could be helping yourself by putting together great ideas or concepts that others won't know are there until after it's too late for them to "respond" by modifying their own designs to "keep up with you."
Does that make sense?
Feel free to vote in the poll, and join the discussion below. It could be quite interesting to see how people approach this.
