Would be interesting to see which the most common method for partial shots (short game mainly) is - so made a poll.
Three ways to reduce the power (as far as I know):
Reduced back-swing by pulling stick back only partially Timing - pull stick full back but go forward before animation stops Slower speed forward
Nr 1 and 2 can of course be combined with slower speed forward, and full back back swing animation with slow forward is an option as well.
Which one do you use for short game (excluding putting)?

It's possible to avoid sub-100% power shots at any distance from 20-100 yards by altering loft, so that's generally what I do. Bunker shots from sub-30 yards is about the only exception

It's maybe possible to avoid, but at the more devilish courses you can't always afford the luxury of the backspin of a lofted flop or even pitch. Not being able to do it means you are giving up shots to the competition.
How would you 100% your way onto the green and close to the flag if missing short on 9 on magnolia for instance?

I usually do the partial. At times I loft up and go full swing but I'm not one to do a bunch of math and figure it out. So I quickly figure out how much I need to partially swing. I'm talking within 35-40 yards.. I seem to do okay..My problem is that shot within 35-40 yards is usually my 3rd shot on a par 4.

Short pitches don't generally spin back that much especially out of rough, so maybe that? I'd have to look at it. Don't get me wrong, I can do partial power shots but consistency is my main issue with them so I try and avoid where feasible

I play this game just the way I play in real life, not charts required just pure feel.

I have used, and continue to use, all 5 of the poll options at different times. Depends on the shot. Partial pull back - full speed forward : I use this for chips/pitches of odd yardages Timing - full speed forward: For shorter bunker shots Partial pull back - slower forward: short sided chip shot when I just have to clear a bit of rough and get the ball rolling Timing - slower forward: this seems to be my go-to stroke for chip shots Full backswing - slower forward: flop shots under 20 yards (like those 16 yarders)

I stay 100% with loft adjustments on all but one particular shot: I have a timing-full forward flop shot that I've dialed in to 11-13 yards - useful for uphill shots where the chip rollout is less predictable.

I am equally inadequate at all of them. My preference is to never be in that situation, but as you can tell from my scores, that isn't working out either The particular system I'm working on getting better at is a full back swing with a slow follow through

I feel like I can do what ever method is needed for any circumstance, may sound egotistical, but that's how I approach each shot.

I have issues doing partial backswing. Full backswing, then time/tempo the swing.
