This one ive been saying I would eventually get around to doing if no one decided to have a go at it. There already is a version of this course on TGC2 but looks like it came from TGC1 and tbh really doesnt do this iconic course real justice.
Been slowly working on this in the background while I focus on my other design projects. Have a few on the go currently, but I like to bounce across from one project to another, chip away at a hole and then move onto another course. I find that for me, too much focus into one project leads to me rushing the process so with this it slows me down and obviously working with different themes and styles I can bring stuff across from one course to another that could work.
So Wentworth's West Course, home to the BMW PGA Championship, the flagship tournament of the European Tour, located in Surrey in the south of England. Has played host to a number of other tournaments including the HSBC World Matchplay & the 1953 Ryder Cup matches.
After going through the process of testing out the plot size which just about fits due to the very St. Andrews style layout, going straight out in the front 9 before looping back at the turn and making its way back towards the clubhouse. Happy with chosen textures and the theme based trees and plants from the countryside theme suit perfectly.
2 holes in so far in terms of laid out and reasonably sculpted. I like to do the course in phases, do a layout, light planting, minimal sculpting to give the base of how the hole will look. Then in the next phase I finish the sculpting and planting. 3rd phase is essentially all testing and making those little changes if needed for it to play.
This works really well for me with Wentworth as in 2005 Ernie Els Design Team started work on revamping the course to suit the modern game from its original design back in 1920. Since that work began in 2005, there have been 3 more phases carried out. Bunkers changed, greens changed, so it gives me the time I need to go and get the most up to date information for the course.
I think thats it for my long winded post, the earliest that I reckon this will be finished is going to be just before launch of TGC2019. Assuming they stick with their usual launch date time frame. But im in no rush, if its not ready by then then it will be finished in the new game.
2 aerial shots of the first 2 holes & some of the 1st, 8th & 18th holes in real life.
