So I'm back trying to build another course (and yes, there are 18 single greens this time ) All 18 holes all laid out - tee to green - all pretty much sculpted as well (some areas off to the sides still to be done) The front nine is quite hilly (ok very hilly - a couple of holes going up 60-80 feet, and four coming down between 50-120ft), while the back nine is flat, near water level and winding between a big lake(s). No planting currently done at all - but the look I want is kinda gorse bushes mostly on the front nine (almost a hilly linksy kinda feel), and sporadic trees (maybe pines) on the back nine. I initially set it up in Swiss theme - which works ok, but just wondering if anyone has any other better ideas on the theme? And/or potential colour schemes. Can post a couple of pics later if anyone would like to see them for ideas. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

This seems like you really want the Highlands theme. You'll get the widest variety of bushes, and there are some trees from which to choose - although you'll have to place them yourself. The backdrops on Highlands all feature coastline, so that might not fit into your plans. If you want something inland and hilly without being mountainous, you might want to go with Boreal, but I would suggest using a darker or browner color scheme.

Thanks Patrick - I'd looked at highlands briefly but hadn't found a colour scheme I liked - I want the grasses to be quite dark / rich greens (while at first glance, highlands seem quite light) As for the coastline - I can always put some bigger hills between the course and the coast bit I guess (so it's never seen)? I perhaps should add that I've gone with ONLY light rough on the course, so that those who dislike the heavy stuff will have somewhere to play Hadn't looked at Boreal - so will take a look at that later.

If you're going with few trees, you can darken a Highlands course with morning sun and low inclination without casting too many shadows. Textures #13 are as dark as they come.

ErixonStoneThank you for the options - I changed the textures over to 13 - which gives pretty much the colours I'm after - so all now good there (on all the themes) I tried boreal initially (as I didn't want the coastline), but the bush options weren't really the ones I wanted. So went to highlands, and fortunately, the 1/3rd of the plot nearest the ocean was unused in my design - so raised that up nicely (100-150 foot) which matches parts of the edge of the rest of the course anyway and that blocks all views of the ocean from the course itself. Trees and bushes are perfect - so theme now decided. Now just some sculpting and tons of planting to do and there might be a half decent course out there. And given it's all light rough off the fairways, it might even be suitable for CC despite 3/4 holes where you can run up some big numbers if you are greedy (or inaccurate) due to (partial) island greens. On the other hand, every par 5 offers a great eagle chance for both tour and players clubs if you are brave and accurate - so it's very scoreable.
