A possible fix for this is change your shaft or even head color. I do this for my driver 3 and 5 woods then if i accidentally get the wrong club selected i usually notice mid swing before its too late...but often i catch it as soon as i see the club in my players hands. ...By the time you realize something is not right the ball is already soaring over the green. Been there, done that, even bought the t-shirt!

Maybe it has something to do with the designer when you lay out a hole and move the green? Kind of like the tee off giving you a wedge instead of driver

Automatic club selection can be turned off in settings that’s the only fix to the problem. I had it happen a bunch of times now I cycle thru the clubs every shot

For the people who think this is the player’s fault for not checking the club, I get your point, but a chip is so straightforward that I shouldn’t need to look to see if the game gave me a 45 yard club from 5 yards out... that said I haven’t read through this thread to see if anyone’s said that lol

Just like when a caddy convinces a player to hit one club or another, the responsibility ultimately rests on the player to choose the correct shot and execute it. That said, this is a video game and many players play fairly quickly (like me). We've grown to assume certain aspects of the game will be consistent, and when you're given a "pitch" at 8 yards but a "chip" at 7 and 9, that's got to be on the game designer. Funny thing - there has been a caddy glitch like this in just about every golf game I've owned.

You cant trust the chip shot in this game as you dont know if its going to check up or not. irl a chip shot never checks up.

What is this "glitch" with chipping/pitching around the green? Only issue I've ever had is the ball idiotically check up out of the heavy rough when chipping. It’s one where the game selects a pitch shot instead of a chip shot for a chip around the green of about 8 yds. I’ve had it happen to me luckily I noticed the different swing animation and changed it before the shot. Doesn’t happen very often. This happens to me several times a round. But I think I get it because I pulled the Lob Wedge from my bag and replaced it with a longer club. I do all of my around the green stuff with the sand wedge. Sometimes the SW comes up as a pitch, other times as a chip. It happens so much that I've learned to double check it first. It also helps that i have a habit of pulling back the stick a few times before shooting, the animation difference between chip and pitch is very noticeable so that becomes a verification for me also.
