I've released a 9 hole beta of the course called RPC BETA WIND TEST. if anyone can give me some feedback that would be great. I need to know if it's at or approachin the right standard If the greens play as you'd expect If it feels right Stuff like that. For my first go at a links course I'm attempting porthcawl in Wales. I doubt I'll get it bang on first time but I'm gonna have a go any way So far so good I'm enjoying this one. only 2 holes in after a week of work. Hole 1 framework Hole 1 Hole 2

I'm up to hole 5, I changed the lighting to get towards the colour I want. I'm getting the hang of the soft brush now my sculpting is improving. Done a little bit of planting as I go along, mainly so I haven't got to do a mindnumbing amount at the end. Some pics Hole 1 2nd Hole 4 overlooking the 3rd green 5th fairway

Update. I'm up to the 16th hole. The layout and sculpting are done while there's a good 60% planting to go. I'm really happy with the look of the course. I'm hoping to be around 85-90% accuracy as there isn't much info about the greens except the dimensions and basic elevations, so I've used a bit of creativity in matching the greens to the hole style. I'm using the course guide from the royal porthcawl site so distances should be spot on. If anyone can suggest what to do with the remaining land off course. How far do we go with the accuracy? Once I've finished up the last 2 holes I'll release a beta called RPC BETA 18. To see how it plays in proper conditions it'll have 1 pin and 2 tees. If anyone wants a play and to give a bit of feedback feel free. More the better. This will be my entry to the designer survival series.

First two pics being 13?
And I assume the last pic is the par 3 14th?
Both on that one (14) specifically, and in general on the other holes, your version looks a LOT flatter / less humpy than the real course - the green on 14 is really up on a plateau for example.
But it visibly IS Porthcawl - so all good.

I'm going off Google earth the club course map with video flyovers. Lots of pictures and a handy site called Provisualizer. As ive never actually visited porthcawl it's hard to figure out the gradients and from the pics etc as the angle shows them to be flatter than they actually are. A bit like when you watch golf on the TV. Thanks for the feedback. It all helps

Looks as though it is coming on really well, especially from the images you posted yesterday.
Personally, I would go back and review the sculpting on the bunkers you did initially with a view to raising the top-line of the bunker (the mound) and in some respects lowering the sand-line - see the large fronting bunker on the fourth image in this thread as an example.
The sculpting on the bunkers in the later images is far more natural looking.

One thing that I have found helpful in Google Earth is changing the image date. You can see a lot more of the undulation detail in the 2nd pic.

So glad you are doing this mate. I've been on about doing it for years. Played there a few times, one of the best in the world.

Don't read to much into the beta the fairways have hidden patches of heavy rough I've done a fair bit of sculpting aswell. But if you have any critique at all lay them on me fella!
