Biggest piece of advice I always give new designers is make the course play exactly the way it should before you EVER start planting. Playability is ALWAYS the #1 aspect of a good course design. It's pretty easy to get a good look if the course already plays to the top of its game.

they are more just "vents. I'll have actual water in "hot springs". Have no idea how to get them colored correctly...but I'll figure it out.

Still trying to get the "rocky" bits to look right because trying to use textures simply does not work if you can't plant a bunch around it...doing it this way is a PAIN! Anybody think it's working or not? I will tell you that from the "sunny side" the look isn't as good...but it's ok.

Looks great to my eye. It's a unique look, and I think you've pulled it off just fine.

Reebdoog,
Not sure if this will help or hinder at this stage of your designing (and it does look fantastic) but I have just come across your thread and Mark Crossfield and Coach Lockey have made a series of videos of them playing courses in Iceland. They capture weather and some amazing looking golf holes. Some of them are Chambers Bay-esque - in that if you didn’t know them you would think them fantasy.
Regards, Steph

Those fairway slopes look deadly. A couple are pretty big. They generally help but make sure you club correctly
