I've gotten to the point where I won't even use this and it's taking all the enjoyment out of the game for me. I can play a round and hit nearly every shot (tour clubs) in the cone, but when I try to use the same tempo and swing speed, I skull the flop shot with a fast or very fast downswing. When I try to slow it down, I get a slow downswing. Any tips on how to hit this and why is this shot SOOO different from every other shot in the game???

From experience I’ve found you can pause at the top of the backswing juuuuust a little bit longer than a normal swing.

I'm on inverted swing and I don't get many fast swings anymore but I do push a lot.
One thing you can try is turn off the shot feedback. It might sound odd to do but you will stop focusing on the feedback and learn the feel of the swing.
I have had it off for months now.

For me on flops, I have to feel I am doing a VF backswing and then a normal downswing - that then gives me P/P. Trying to do that has never (yet!) given me an actual VF backswing All my VF downswings are when my backswing is slower than my downswing (that applies occasionally to full shots too - trying to be be TOO smooth on the way back)

Personally when I do flop shots I don't ever bring the club all the way back. I discovered that if I let the club get all the way to the top of the backswing I will have issues with the downswing but if I shorten the backswing then I usually get a Perfect downswing. My ideal flop is a Fast/Perfect. For me it's too risky going for a Perfect/Perfect. That's just the way I play though. It's probably different for everyone.

I tend to mostly get fast/very fast downswings when on a downslope.

Yep.... a longer than usual pause at the top, and about 3/4 speed downswing... definitely not as fast as with a regular shot. A deliberately moderate pace on the downswing helps a lot.
Haven't rocketed a flop for 6-7 weeks.

I hate to say it, but it's just something the game does. I will go several rounds or like the other day in a round, I was shooting very well, then all of the sudden on the 17th hole, I get a fast down swing for a tee shot, a very fast down swing on my approach shot and then all was great again, but it led to a bogey. The tempo swing is random and will just to it. We all deal with it...I think. I've said this before...REALLY REALLY pay attention to how many times you get a fast down swing or a slow down swing depending where the water hazard or OB is on a tee shot...then after it puts you OB or in the water, your swing is fine again. I think that's just in the game. I never talk about it because I figure we all have to deal with it....Oh, and yes, it occurs on flop shots enough to where I just expect it.

I just hold the swing for a tiny bit longer. Still get off tempo shots but not that many.
