Making this thread now despite not having a lot to share...but might as well. Struggled with settling on an environment given the wide range of possibilities in the country, so there's a chance this one will be tossed into the trash bin...but I hope not, have a cool idea for the layout that I'm hopefully able to make work...we shall see... (p.s. I'd like to have highlands backgrounds with tropical everything else, please)The most basic of basic teaser photos, just trying to work in the setting before diving too deep, while attempting to envision routing/hole concepts:

So here's the working concept... Some of this... and kind of some of this.... With an inland backdrop kind of like this... As a side note - what I would give to go play that course in the 1st and 2nd pictures, looks utterly stunning!

#5 down, was really pleased to see the look once auto-gen trees were cranked up. Long way to go...

Just a quick play-test video I recorded earlier - 6 holes down, but not necessarily "final." Having fun with this one, I must say, hope it turns out better than my prior 2 contest attempts!

At first I was nervous about the fact that so many of these national courses are using the Tropical theme. As I look at the pics, though, no two tropical courses look at all alike. I think that's one of the first things that makes a designer great. Being able to take one of the small amount of themes and making a course look different than the others.
This one looks great so far!

This one looks great so far! It's not used very often, but the tropical theme is surprisingly versatile. There's a lot of different looks you can get with lighting and backdrop, and there's a ton of great planting options as well. I wish it didn't take me so long to dive into it.

I noticed that we've both incorporated some sand around the tee boxes. Pretty cool!
Although, if I were you I'd be concerned that you had a similar thought as me...

I envy you guys who get to use auto-gen trees. I'm in desert because that's the backdrop I need for Egypt and a lot of the plot is natural desert, but the actual Nile flood plain area of the course I have to put down heavy rough and hand-plant everything.
