The National Sporting Club of Cuba is my working title so far. In Spanish it just rolls right off the tongue, no? I decided to go mountain instead of coastal (working on another coastal tropical course right now). I like where the plot is at and have started laying out the front nine.

I'm getting a slow start due to finishing up my 9-holer for the Pandora contest, but I've got two holes pretty much done.

So apparently the regime wasn't happy with my progress on the first two holes and they made me start over. Seriously though, after looking at the first two holes, I decided I need to make the course a little more severe. Get outside of my comfort zone, so to speak. Going forward, I'm adopting the "make an omelette, break some eggs" principal to this design. Something more like what is below. On a realated note, I have a question about the ravine there. I put some water down there even though it's going to eventually be all foliage. It's either that or OB which I think is a little to penal. I don't want players to get down there and have to hack it out or take an unplayable. Is there another way to make that "hazard?"

You need to use OB. Think of it as an enforced lost ball. IRCC, the penalty is the same as OB.

Well, I started over. Again. I just couldn't get going on either of the first two tries. I know I've got a good course underway when I can't wait to get back to it and work more, and when the holes all have a certain look. Looks like I'm headed to the ocean for this one. The course will split time between heavily wooded and hilly terrain, and a coastal area. Something like this. I've got a handful of holes (mostly) finished, including the 3rd and 4th holes pictured here.

No new pics right now, but I'm going out of town for work until next Wed. so I thought I'd at least give an update.
The course is coming along nicely. I've got holes 1-6 and 11-14 done. I'm trying to space out my work so I don't get stale and have the stale work be holes 14-18. I've reinstated the trees and really like the look of the course - wooded tropical mountain and then almost Scottish links along the ocean. I'm a little sad I have to leave because I've really been in a nice groove. Hopefully, I'll get right back to it next week.

Well, I'm back in town (for now anyways), and I'm back at work on this course. I'm very pleased with the results so far. Pictured below are the 12th green, 13th hole headed down the coast, and a small glimpse of 14 coming back. I'm trying to get started with the coastline and the planting to make it look right. Don't know if I like it yet, but it's better than nothing for right now. Currently have holes 1-8, 11-15, and 18 done.

Update - no pics (sorry)
I've uploaded a test version to see how it plays in the wind. I have 18 playable holes, but a lot of bunkers are not done yet, and I might redesign a couple of holes. It plays awesome in the wind. For a "short" course (under 7300) it plays very long.
I completely changed the lighting also. Like, I moved the sun all the way around to the opposite of where I had it. Holes 15, 17, and 18 all played into the sun and I hate that when I'm playing. Plus, those three holes have tons of cool stuff that you can't see if you're looking into the sun. I had to delete tons of trees and plant more in order to keep the greens as clear of shadows as possible. Luckily, it didn't take as long as I thought. Also luckily, I've still got a month-and-a-half to finish this thing. Gonna need it.

The course played and looked great. How much work do you have left it seems quite finished actually.

The course played and looked great. How much work do you have left it seems quite finished actually. Still have tons of work left. Lots of bunkers need sculpting. Some holes need light rough still. I hate the 11th hole so I might ctrl-x that one. I need to finish my coastline and add more houses on the mountain. I'm actually taking a short break to work on another 9-hole effort for a week or two. Thanks for the play and your comments though.

Another update with no pics (sorry).
I took a little time off of this one to work on two others, but now I'm back to finish it off. Planting and "finishing" a golf course is very time-consuming and tedious work, but I like the way it's going so far. The hardest part for me is getting the off-course areas to look right - in this case, the coastline and the mountains.
I'm aiming to get this one finished in about a week or so. If I take any longer than that, I start traveling a lot for work again and that puts a serious dent in my productivity here.

Probably gonna finish this one up in the next couple days. The backstory of the course is as follows: The National Sporting Club of Cuba was built as the iron curtain fell in Europe. It was meant to put Cuba on the map for its world-class golf, but the money ran out before the course was fully ready for play. As Cuba is not a wealthy country, funds to make this a worthy golf resort are scarce. Therefore, the course is playable and has a wonderful yet challenging layout, but it's also overgrown in spots and lacks some of the finer things that make a course great - carts/cart paths, flowers, and even trash removal (you can see bags of trash just left all over the course). Still, the course plays long (par 71, 7310 yards), and presents players with a rightful challenge. Here are the last WIP screens. The 6th green with the 13th green and 14th tee in the backbground 12th green
