For the 2nd leg of the DCS, I choose to take Japan as my country to build in. Quick pic: There will be lots of water and a zen garden or two. Not too much to say right now, but when hole 1 is finished, it’ll look great.

Japan is a cool choice for this contest. I know they have a very vibrant golf culture over there, but I know next to nothing about the architecture/courses over there like I do with the US or the UK. I vaguely remember reading that par 6/7 holes aren't uncommon over there. You'll have to let us know!

Yeah they definitely have a few par 6s and 7s, but I’m not putting any on the course, mostly because they are pretty much an automatic “not approved” in the TGCT database.

Ha, I've been meaning to design one for giggles, but it's definitely a little gimmicky, and I hadn't found a project I wanted to try it on. Guess I shouldn't bother. Silly hole ideas aside, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Not going to post too many WIP pics until I have the full layout finished, but you know that when I say that I do lol... Here's the clubhouse (aka lake). I had to advanced edit the clubhouse to get the water to work since the terrain auto-flattens if you don't, so there are going to be a ton of stairs and walls: You can also see the distance tools in the backround on H1, which represent a creek with waterfalls cascading down the hill. I think it could look very nice, so hopefully it turns out good. By the way, I tried to say I’d be there... oh, wrong thing I meant to post a link to the main inspiration for this course. Here’s the link: Naruo Golf Club

Just finished up watching VctryLnSprts review the course and I have to say, I learned a lot from both what Eric had to say and what some guys were saying in the chat. The big thing is like what a lot of you guys were saying: FINISH. I 100% agree that the last one simply wasn’t finished, and if I wasn’t tired of seeing that layout, I’d go back in and touch it up. I think this next course could have some great things. I’ve already challenged myself to create a less flat course that just has more variety, so hopefully I can meet that goal by May when the course is due.

Beginning to think using hedges as retaining walls was a bad idea... lol

Naruo in perched on a hill-side in Kobe. More elevation there than is visible in pictures. Its a gem of a course and an interresting one historically.

I kind of changed my mind on that after looking into it more. I mean, yeah, I don’t want a totally flat course, but I’m just not sure that that elevation is what I’m going for.

There are not many Japanese courses that are on flat land. Among the great ones really only Kawana comes to mind, and that is not very flat either. Tokyo GC is another classic one. Double greens as well on Tokyo GC, which is a typical mark of Japanese designs.

Good use of time.... I know right? I could’ve been working on hole layouts or rock work, but I felt this was super important!

Really been making some progress as of late. While I’m still behind schedule, I have ideas for nearly every hole and can probably get this done my next week. Meanwhile, lemme keep adding these townhouses...
