Hey guys,
For those of you who didn’t know, I ran a 64 person tournament last year to go along with the NCAA Basketball tournament. I want to do it again, but as we all know HB did something dumb and didn’t include tours or at least cross platform societies. Here’s the thing... a tournament this size could only work in TGC1 as I don’t think I could round up 64 players from one platform. It’s simple match play but since the conditions on a course change over time, I can’t just have people play stroke play rounds. I’ve come up with a few (potential) solutions that I’d like to post before I attempt sign-ups. Please, give me feedback on what you’d want to see by voting in the poll or giving suggestions below.
Option 1: Run it in TGC1
The most obvious solution, but I’m still not sure it would be great. The upside is a big one: we can all play. The more minor downsides add up, however. Some people uninstalled TGC1, others never owned it, and overall, nobody’s used to it. I’m just not sure we could get participation up enough to fill the slots.
Option 2: Three 16 player tournaments
This would be the best way to get participation up, but it doesn’t really fit the style I’m going for. I want this to be kind of a “parody” of March Madness, which has 64 teams fighting for the National Championship. I’d collaborate with two others to create and run societies on the different platforms, but the course conditions would be different, so it would only be fair to separate the three.
Option 3: Only run it on PC
By far my least favorite option, as I really don’t think 64 people would play. Still, it would involve the least amount of hassle with setup and scores.
Please, let me know if you have any other ideas. I really want to run the tournament but sadly I can’t do it the way I want because of how the game is now. Also vote in the poll.
Thanks
