Imagine a plateau dominating its 1500 m Rhone Valley. In front of you the highest peaks, from Matterhorn to Mont Blanc. It was in this majestic setting that the golf pioneers laid out the first golf course in 1906. Since then, the greens have blossomed in the sun and the greatest players have been won over by the natural beauty of the site. Here, golf is in conquered terrain, with its four courses, including the famous 18-hole course with the same name as its prestigious creator, Severiano Ballesteros, classified by specialized magazines as one of the most beautiful in the world and host of the Omega European Masters and formerly the Swiss Open on the European Tour.
2 versions of the course have been published:
- Crans-sur-Sierre O. E. M. - Par 70
- Crans-sur-Sierre (members) - Par 72
O. E. M. is the course used for the Omega European Masters which has 1 tee option and 4 pin locations.
Members is simply the course set up for the members, with 3 tee options and 4 pin locations
karma4u - you do awesome work with course photography, would seriously appreciate if you could grab a few for me
The Ballesteros Course offers a fun test to all levels of players with its tight fairways and undulating greens across a golf course that has 650+ yard fairways and multiple drivable par 4's. Not only is the course known for its breathtaking scenery but also for being the location of some of the greatest recovery shots ever, by the man himself ...... Severiano Ballesteros. We've all seen the shot on his needs with a fairway wood under a tree, and what about the time he won here in 1993. Seve was 5 shots back standing on the 13th tee on the final day and typical Seve began a charge and birdied the next 5 holes to lie tied for the lead standing on the 18th tee.
He proceeded to hit 3 wood off the tee and hit it a country mile offline and found himself 7 feet away from an 8foot high wall, with a limited swing, branches in the way, had to also carry over a swimming pool that was OOB and a number of 70 foot pine trees to a pim that was 120 yards away. Seve, with the golfing gods on his side played the shot with a pw, over the wall, through a gap in the branches, over the pool, over the pine trees and landed just short of the green and then went and holed the chip to win 😂😂 Classic Seve.
Before publishing the course I decided to try and replicate that shot, you can check it out below.
