Im assuming the "plant-meter" is a memory bar, so my question is how far up on this can you go? is maxing it out a guaranteed lag fest or are most of the good courses using most of it? if its not recommended to max it out, what would be a good % to aim for at completion to make the course playable on all platforms? Asking since im almost 30% in on the meter and i havent started any planting yet except trees and a few houses so staring to worry abit

The plant meter is an approximation of memory usage. Filling it up causes the course to take longer to load.
This does not translate linearly to stuttering during gameplay.
Stuttering happens when there are too many objects to draw on the screen, or too many moving objects. Grasses aren't drawn at far distances. Trees are drawn at lower detail at far distances, but they move, cast shadows and have collision properties. Water has collision properties and is animated.
I believe reeb maxed out the object meter on Old Tom's Ferry but I don't remember stuttering on that course.

Ok thx! I have no ambition to have the course be "tour worthy" anyways, but if you spend 100+h on something its always a positive if its actually playable once you are done. And who knows, it might actually turn out ok and there might be some swedes around that have played the course its "inspired by" (gave up on RCR too make it less stressful on my nerves and to make it more playable as the pros we all are in this game)

I was going to ask this question also- I'm on my 3rd course- and doing the Fantasy Course contest- was curious how far across the top does the yellow memory bar go? if it goes all the way across the screen, I'll be okay- if not- I need to start making contingency plans and prioritizing.

Yea the bar goes all the way, tried that out. (got a bit scared when the message that it was full came up and it didnt even let me remove anything to get rid of the message and be able to save the course, had to spam delete while clicking "ok" to be able to get out)
kinda felt that the bar moved slower in the end as well, but im sure that was just that the things i planted last was less demanding

I'll add:
If you want to save some space then avoid using the multiplant feature on trees.
Water effects also use big chunks of the meter...and can add to lag on a hole if not careful (refer to erixon's post).
Always remember that the "add ons" don't make the course great. Focus on how the course plays first and foremost. Add in the extras when you have that part EXACTLY how you want it.
