For the past couple of years, TGC Tours has designated a week and golf event as a TGCTours Gives Back event. It has become our annual charitable endeavor.
Scott, Tim, and I appreciate every member that has contributed to the on-going operation of TGCTours and our charitable events in the past. Having a platform for these charitable events makes TGCTours an even more special community, and we thank all of you for your support. For the past two years, I have traveled to Honduras with my high school age son and we’ve had the opportunity to support efforts in some of the poorest areas on planet earth. Last year, we supplied running water to a medical clinic that services one of these communities; we provided a warm meal, shoes, and clothing to 80+ children and multiple suitcases full of medical supplies.
These people live in terrible conditions. The children often contract illness from walking barefoot (they often don’t have shoes). If they have a toothbrush, they often share one as a whole family.
My younger son loves the color lime green. I once bought him some lime green Nike shoes that I thought he would really like. But he didn’t really like them much at all. So, he only wore them a handful of times. Last year, I took those shoes to Honduras and gave them to a 12-year-old girl. You should have seen how happy she was. She ran through the town beaming…smiling from ear to ear…showing everyone her shoes. The next day, she was still so happy. Then the third day, when I saw her, she was barefoot again. I asked her, “Where are your shoes?”. She replied, “Oh. My mom had to go see a doctor today so she’s using them. I’ll have them again tomorrow.”
This year, I’m not able to travel to Honduras. But we’re sending boxes with Christmas gifts. Each box will contain hygiene items, educations materials, and toys for the kids. Each box costs approximately $25.00. So for each $25 we raise, we’re putting a smile on a child’s face. TGCTours has raised approximately $750.00 each year in our charitable events. If we’re able to do that again, we’ll be able to give gift boxes to 30 kids!
As for the event itself, it will run Nov 19 through Nov 25 in the TGCTours.com (Special Events) Society. Please play and enjoy your rounds, whether you are able to donate or not. Be a part of the event, one way or another. There is a Thursday deadline to have your R1 and R2 completed as it's being hosted on the PGA Tour Schedule - something for our Challenge Circuit members to be aware of.
Step-by-Step on how to play the event:
- Everyone active will be auto-registered (All TGCT members can play whether you donate or not)
- Join the TGCTours (Special Events) society and play the active event starting Nov 19
- Complete R1/R2 by Friday at 4am UTC
- Complete R3/R4 by Sunday at 8am UTC
- Event participation is optional
We’ll be adding a trophy to the trophy cabinet of every member that donates this year.
If you are able to donate, you can donate via check (U.S. only) or credit card or via PayPal. You can choose from the buttons below. All finances are being collected and distributed via my church so contributions are tax-deductible for U.S. donors.
