I have been fortunate to gather a great collection of judges for this event that will help me through the painstaking process of scoring the contest and ensuring that careful attention is paid to each element of the design.
Here is the scoring rubric (minimum of 16 points and maximum of 80 points):
Contest "Element"
Unsuccessful - 1
Moderate - 2
Effective - 3
Successful - 4
Amazing - 5
Theme - elements displaying your skill in making the course fit the theme
Environment - your ability to choose the background and weather conditions that best exemplify your chosen theme
Lighting - selecting the appropriate time of day and inclination/orientation of the sun can really make each theme shine
Textures - creative choice of textures for the surfaces while maintaining a sense of realism required for the course to maintain its tour worthy status
Objects - use of the trees, rocks, plants, and grasses in the given theme
Tour - elements showing that your course meets golf course design standards for playability
Tees - shape, contour, flatness, position, etc.
Fairways - waypoint position, landing spots, creative options, camber, etc.
Greens - shape, contour, slope, pin positions, etc.
Bunkers - shape, sculpting, integration, etc.
Playability - whether the fantasy elements and course design elements have mixed well enough to make the holes enjoyable and fair to play
Tour Worthy - is this course acceptable for use on any tour, from CC all the way up to PGA/World?
Fantasy - elements from the "creative and crazy" department
Terrain - the use of landscape flatten and raise tool to create an interesting landscape on which the course layout is placed
Elevation - extreme rises and drops will be rewarded if they are done in such a way that the hole is still reasonable and playable
Water - water elements can add interest to a design, but 15 waterfalls around the course won't do it, as I'm talking about the use of ponds, lakes, streams, waterfalls, islands, etc where appropriate and interesting
Clubhouse - points will be awarded for a neat clubhouse setting and surrounding area
Objects - effective use of the objects available to decorate the course, without smacking random stuff all over the place for no reason
Creativity - surprise me, show me something I haven't seen before, not just in one area or "moment" on the course, but make me want to play this design again
