As someone new to the series, would you guys recommend the full version or the touch (or the mobile, but that seems maybe too basic).
Also, in researching the game I’ve seen people comment on how many leagues they are running at once. Does that mean the game only simulates certain leagues and not all leagues? Don’t understand how that could work with champions league and what not

I've not played the Touch version. I've heard some say that the Touch version takes some of the tedium out of the game and they prefer that. I've always played the full version...I'll have to give Touch a go at some point to see how I like it.
As far as leagues, when you set up your save, you get to choose what leagues you want to include in your save. The more you include, the larger the database, and thus the more it could slow down your game. That said, the game has so many leagues, that it's easy to exclude non-important ones. You can fairly safely include the major countries and then add the minor countries' top division.

Yeah - its the depth the game simulates the league to - you can't play in other leagues you don't add - but they're all still there doing stuff and you can play against the teams in them even if they're not fully simulated.
Generally I just add the leagues I expect to play in - the English ones.

Football Manager 2017 is the first one I didn't get, right back to the original Championship Manager. I've not got FM18 either.
This is because I now have a 2 year old, so gaming time has been cut right down.
On FM16 I'm in my fifth season with Newcastle Town and my fourth in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. Back on FM11 I managed to take them to the Premier League where I just about managed to avoid 'doing a Derby'.

My favorite part of this game is how right at the beginning of my career they move the 2022 world cup out of Qatar

I currently own FM2016.. Would it be wise to get 18 or just go for 17? Or should I just stay with 16?

I did a 70 year save on CM 01/02. Due to a glitch in the game Gary McAllister didn't retire until he was 58, he had a club until his mid 40s.

I've had two single player careers that lasted over 30 seasons but the longest was the old Zealot Online Clan on CM01/02 that went on for over 40 seasons. At the peak there was nine of us playing at once and we had around sixteen of us who were in the clan at one stage or the other. I was one of three or four that played every season.

Bought FM18 yesterday as it is down to £12.92 in a World Cup sale. Now just got to wait around 3 months until I can afford a new laptop to play it on.

Got my laptop a while back, and have started with Bishop's Stortford in the Southern League Premier Division.
Been a crazy November in my game. Scored 25 goals in 6 league games, winning all of them including an 8-0 win over bottom of the table St Ives Town - the biggest win I can remember in all my years playing the CM/FM series.
Elsewhere, Shrewsbury Town beat Metropolitan Police 11-0 in the FA Cup First Round, thereby giving the police their biggest beating since the 2011 London Riots. On the world stage, Cape Verde have qualified for their first ever World Cup and have been grouped with Brazil, England and Netherlands.

Tell me about your youth only save. Lower league side? How do you set that up? If you check out the SI forums, there is a challenge board there and one of the bigger threads is the yearly youth only challenge. I have 'ran' the thread for the past 2-3 years, but with work now blocking the SI forums I don't get on them as much and someone else is running it this year. I play my youth only save with that ruleset - In a nutshell that is; - Pick the country you are going to play in, create a new game with just that league loaded/active
- Create a 'Holiday Manager', start them off unemployed and holiday for a year
- Once the Season Summary appears (this means the relegation/promotions have been processed), you can view the teams that were previously unplayable that have been promoted into the lowest playable league
- Pick your team, retire the Holiday Manager, create your manager (lowest possible coaching badges & playing experience) and away you go
- No buying/loaning in of players ever
- You can sell and loan out your players
- Your only source of new players comes from your yearly youth intake
- Care, nurture and suckle them into first teamers
- Challenge is complete once you have won your domestic highest league and then the Champions League
I'd love to complete it with an English side, but there are so many leagues to fight through. I have completed with with Belgium and Swedish sides in the past, thinking of going Croatian this year It is not for the faint of heart, or the wheeler-dealer types. Personally, I love it. Taking those 15 year olds and building and moulding them into club legends is my favorite part. My favorite ever FM player from over 20 years is a regen called Serge NSimba. Came in as a young 15 year old MC, by the end of his career he was a fantastic DR, WBR, DM, MC and the most consistent player you could ever wish for. This sounds like exactly how I would want to play a manager sim. Unfortunately, as much as I loved the football manager games the few iterations I've tried, I have no idea on the tactics or how to adjust strategy in-game. Even with top teams I would routinely get beat by bottom feeders. I always play OOTP baseball with a full rebuild that take years to come to fruition, but it's way more fun that way. I think they added promotion/relegation to fictional leagues in that game, I may try something similar in a sport I actually know lol. EDIT: Lol, just realized this post is over a year old, thought it was from this October.
