So I'll start from the start. I didn't pick up tgc2 right at launch, was couple of weeks before I had the spare cash to get it. But when I did here's how the clubs went.
Never used the standard clubs, apart from the tutorial when you first start the game (I believe it's them anyway if memory serves correct). I knew I wouldn't need to and that they wouldn't provide a challenge for me at all.
So after the tutorial I played a few rounds using the player clubs to get a feel for how the new swing mechanic worked. That didn't take long, so it was time to see how challenging the mighty tour clubs were. Had no problem with them at all, even though others at the time were saying they were unplayable (on PS4 at least). I play on PS4 myself and couldn't understand what people were on about.
Then I noticed that my swing would start going all over the place once the battery in the controller started to get low, but everything went back to normal once I started charging it again. Mentioned this to others, who tried it and said they noticed the same. So I began to always play with my controller plugged in.
Then about a month ago, or just before the 3rd last event of season 3 when I restarted my tgct career....my ability to use the tour clubs went to complete dog s@#*....I mean almost every shot (apart from putts) was nowhere near straight. I was hooking, slicing, fast or very fast downswing, sometimes slow or very slow. I then started back on tgct on the European tour, and due to the mandatory tour club use, I played terrible. I missed 2 cuts by more than a country mile....the final event I rage quit because of how bad it was going.
I ran from the tour clubs back to player and was shooting perfectly fine again. A couple of times switched back and straight away everything was going everywhere except straight again. Said to myself f@## the tour clubs and was thinking how I'd hopefully be back on the Web.com fairly quick into season 4.
Then came the email with the (still quite controversial) news that all club sets were now aloud in the PGA and European tours. I said to myself, this is brilliant news, I can now compete enough to at least make cuts each week.
Season 4 has started and yes, I used the player clubs for the first event. Finishing at -13, definitely not threatening the top of the leaderboard, but my 1st and 2nd round scores should be enough to make the cut hopefully.
Then last night I decided to play a practice round on this weeks TST course and shot -6 with the player clubs. Screw it....give me the tour clubs I said, and lets see what happens. EVERYTHING was inside the red cone, some just going to the right side of it. Tempo was pretty much bang on for the round with a couple of fast and slow downswings. Shot -4. Started the round again, same thing except shot -7. Thought to myself...it's only 2 rounds but they're working for me again. It was pretty late at this stage so turned the PS4 off and went to remove the charging cable from the controller....it wasn't connected, my phone was charging. So this morning played a round on that course again without the controller charging and shot -9. Played a 2 round event in one of the other societies and finished it at -18 with a 1st round of -10. One terrible very slow downswing but that was purely my own fault as I let the thumbstick slip from my thumb. Otherwise again everything was in the cone and majority of shots were perfect tempo.
So was this loss of ability to use the tour clubs all just in my head? Or has it got something to do with the game? We did get the update a few days ago, so something could have tweeked. I don't which it was...if not a mixture of both...but one thing is for sure. I'm back on the tour clubs for good. Obviously I'm going to have days where I shoot bad but this time I'm not buckling under the pressure and switching back to player clubs.
Sorry for waffling on for so long, but just felt like sharing this with everyone. And hopefully anybody else having trouble tour clubs, or even player clubs can be encouraged to stick at it and not give up having read this...provided I didn't bore you's all to sleep with it lol.
