I just wish there was an "overswing" component to the tempo, because as it stands right now knowing a hard max distance a ball will travel just makes scoring that much easier....can't believe that HB didn't implement this..... This!!!!! Game could be so much more immersive and challenging with this rather small gameplay change! Yep HB really missed the boat on a rather simple thing that would make shots more diverse. I just don't understand the thought process behind hard capping the distance but these are also the same blokes who thought it wise to remove "tours", live match play, 4ball and massively botched their multi-tee setup so I guess we should just be happy you can swing the club and hit he ball.

Mitch let me know to just swing the same speed back and forward. Works wonders. Still suck.

I don't know how anybody swings using two fingers. I tried it and I was yanking the joystick all over the place. Thumb only keeps the stick straight. It's the stupid game that sucks.

To be clear I am taking the club back with my pointer alone then pushing it down with my thumb alone. So it's a two part swing. I don't hold the stick with both fingers. It might be a little easier to hit it straight then using just a thumb but the timing is harder because you have a slight delay between the finger and thumb . It took me a while to get tgc2 swing down. I had major issues with slicing and then fast swings. I still mess up obviously but I have the feedback off so I don't even know if I am hitting it perfect all the time. I can definitely tell if it's fast ds and usually if it's a slow ds. I also play totally by feel and using two fingers for me feels more like a golf swing. My finger is the takeaway and my thumb is the downswing. I have played this way since tiger on ps2 . I have no clue if I came up with it or I copied it. I certainly would not say it's cheating. I only play TST anyways and lucky if I get a top 20. Oh I don't care what you use to swing your little stick, toes, fingers, thumbs or nose whatever works for you mate! Your double finger method sounds interesting & I see how that would feel more like a 2 part swing. I tried it on the range a few times and was brutally awful, terrible tempo and even worse cone path. My biggest swing issue right now is still tempo, I've come to grips with that fact that I will hit a lot of slow/perfect swings and I've just adapted my distances. The only way I can consistently get perfect/perfect is if I listen for the avatar swing "swoosh" & get zoned into a rhythm, but I like to play while watching TV or listening to music so whatever. Concentration is rewarded with this swing mechanic IMO and that's a great thing. I just wish there was an "overswing" component to the tempo, because as it stands right now knowing a hard max distance a ball will travel just makes scoring that much easier....can't believe that HB didn't implement this..... I will say your ball flight when we play live turnbased has some wicked draw action on it, not sure if that's just an artifact of where you aim compared to what I see on my screen or if you use draw either via the loft mechanic or natural stick movement. Let's get a game sometime. Well I have been doing this way for so long that it works for me. It actually would hurt me in TW 14 because to get a fast swing for more distance I would have to slam my thumb down and I would srpay it all over the place. I could not get enough swing speed because there is a slight pause between my finger and my thumb movement. I think that is just the "live" camera angle making it look like there is a big draw. I see that with you as well sometimes especially off the tee. It looks like you are aiming way right and it goes left. If you play my ghosts I bet it doesnt look like that. AMen on the overswing though. Anthony on the main board said they thought about it but did not put it in. Maybe TGC 3.

I just find it extremely disappointing that the former lead dev provides more insight & details than the current devs ever do. All I can think is what a shame that he left, the game would be far better with him around. The overswing/risk v reward is a no brainer to me, people want a more challenging and diverse game then this is the top way forward IMO. But people make poor decisions, look at what TGCTours did with limiting the top tours to TOUR clubs only, as if anyone using PLAYER could ever compete, yet they found it necessary to handcuff the field. I would find playing competitively much more intriguing if various clubsets were allowed, perhaps even to the point where I might participate but alas we have lads going > -50, tons of fun in that right?

I think you should at least try TST. I think you are the type of person that would like it and do very well once you learned how to read the greens. That is the toughest aid to give up but after you get a handle on that the other aids are not that hard to play without.

Haha well same here but I have improved a lot since I first started playing no grids. I actually started with no aids on TGC 1 and then got so frustrated with no grids I turned just the grids back on and then once I learned how to putt in this game (much harder than tiger) I then turned them off and never looked back.
Maybe there should be a middle tour with just grids but everything else off. Then once they get comfortable with that they can go to TST. It is a big adjustment going from everything on to nothing.

I wish there were a middle ground between the current green grid and no grid. Or at least the option to disable the grid until the player reaches the green. I hate that playing this game my entire focus is on that neon grid, frankly it's a disservice to designers.
HB missed a terrific opportunity IMO to develop a green reading system where reading the slopes were possible without the full blown grid. Perhaps softer grid lines or more pronounced sloping shading. Given the gaming technology, I'd like to believe there's a better method to reading virtual putts that what we used in 1990.

Yea I really think we could have something better than a green grid. The way it is now we have too much info with grids or too little without grids at times. I have always thought a green map would work that is overhead only so once you go back to the green it is not there.

I use the part of my thumb right near the tip. I use to use the soft part of my thumb but always pulled it right. I got myself on the driving range and just practised different ways of using the analogue. it will feel uncomfy for a few rounds but you will soon get use to it. now 98% of my shots are in the cone.

I have some crazy kind of back and forth with the 'just above my 1st knuckle on the right part of my right thumb.' The sweet spot is there, but I can be a bit off center as well, and off tempo.

I actually hit more shots in the cone on tour clubs than I did on player.
