Without sounding a like a numpty, i dont want to give away how i did it and made it repeatable, but there are ways.
I used a tee box in the middle of an ocean and smashed balls constantly into the water for hours. Its a better way to do it as you get the exact carry yardage when it hits the water.

sroel908: Green firmness is more about how the ball interacts with the putting surface when you hit an approach into it. A soft green is more receptive, and will allow more backspin than a firm one. A firm green will have less bite and more rollout.
