I had a shot 164yd +26' with 6mph tw I used a 6i (170) no adjustments and went 32' past the pin it's like the elevation meant nothing. Comments, ideas?
thanks john

This doesn't sound all that far out to me. The effective distance is about 170yds adjusted for the elevation. Take 5 yds off for the tail wind. So I'd make you 5 yds long + whatever roll you got on the green.
Also you don't mention lie - downslopes also cause the ball to shoot lower & further.

Yep.
You calculated it badly wrong is the truth.

Yep. You calculated it badly wrong is the truth. Hey, Matt, I figure 26' elevation would make up for the 8mph tw I have to figure some kind of feet/elevation feet/wind adjustments, better than what I'm doing now.

Nearly, but got to figure the rollout too (assuming a flattish green and landing zone).
What was the green firmness?

Ok, then my calculations would have gone as such.
Pin is 164 yds away, med/soft greens with a 6 iron (assuming a fairly flattish landing zone no slopes or hills etc) will be around 7/8 yds of rollout (trust me on that). Im at 157 now.
Elevation 26ft which, dividable by 3, gives you approx 9 (rounding slightly). Add this on. Im now at 166.
6mph tailwind, take it all off (if its a direct tailwind), 1 yd per mph, so now im at 160 yards.
160 is my yardage for this shot.
You hit a stock 6 iron which will carry 170 yards with no loft adjustments.
As you can see, you over did the yardage by 10 yards minimum hence were 30 ft plus away from the hole.
Hope that helps a bit.

BTW I plugged these numbers into my home made shot calculator (excel), based on Doyley's cheat sheets from TGC1 and came up with 159yds. It may just be a coincidence. I built on TGC1 club yards now known as standard, which is what I use.

Hey guys, if you have a minute please fill out my golf survey. Im using it for my college thesis so you'd be helping me graduate! It discusses golfs potential to help aid child moral and personal development. www.surveymonkey.com/r/FJ26KXL

The yardages for all clubs (i have each mapped for all increments of lofting) for carry distance is often different from TGC1 and often vastly different.

I did mine by quarters flat land 0-2 mph tw but no way to figure wind yet, how did you increment if you don't mind me asking? i built a 1 hole par 5 unpublished so i can hit shots over and over.

Without sounding a like a numpty, i dont want to give away how i did it and made it repeatable, but there are ways.
I used a tee box in the middle of an ocean and smashed balls constantly into the water for hours. Its a better way to do it as you get the exact carry yardage when it hits the water.
