First (and most importantly), thank you for taking the time to put this contest together. I really like designing, but I never get a course done if I don't have a deadline.
SOOOO happy you liked the bunkers. Literally made my day.
I feel like you made some of your judgements on eye candy (or lack thereof) by hole 6, but I certainly understand your thoughts on color. It is tough to show desert and stay realistic to the theme. I kept thinking "would more stuff grow here".... Eye candy is tough for me, but I also view playability and course layout to be a premium. I also think the desert does a good job of relying on terrain.
I wanted to go unique on my clubhouse/hotel, and I think it worked. That stark white on a desert course seemed like it would be the style.
You had a couple of brutal putts but it was when you were offline. Putts in the zone of the pins are pretty middle of the road, but if you get out of your zone, look out.
I had never done a desert theme, so figured I had to try one... think it came of pretty well.
Specifics -
Hole 3 and 10 you wanted more "green" down the hill by the bunker. Pretty good ideas, but again "would that grow there" is my thinking... maybe I need to go more for video golf realism (not real world realism) as to look.
Hole 6 - You commented on the transition from Fairway to green/light rough. That was pretty tight I thought... overhead visual (look at video you posted) was spot on with no changes needed imo.
Hole 10 - you missed the suspension bridge entirely.
Using the background is part of the designer challenge. I set the view up to intentionally on the background views... so sure did not design, but planned.
Struggle with difficulty... you have commented on the last CC course that it was too easy...
Yep hole 16 is make-able IF you hit Perfect - Perfect... you can hit spires if you miss
SEPERATELY on what you discussed with Mitch - the designer does show "green" lines on the green that are yellow on the playtest or post publish. I had to adjust a lot of what looked good in the designer but was not during dozens of rounds of playtesting. Feel like I learned more about Mitch's course than mine.
Again though - thank you for all the advice.. that is the main reason I get in these contests - advice.. be as honest as you can. I wont always agree, but I will always welcome it.
