So by looking at the "New" metering system in this last update .. in GNCD ... I took a look at where the "Meter" said my course was with objects ... Naturally, I expected Gull Island to be HIGH ... and thus a big reason for load times on consoles/low end PCs ... I didn't expect this ... Or this ... My conclusion: if you are designing for fast load times across multiple platforms (PC's & Consoles), then you need to be "below" the halfway mark. As some are complaining of long load times on my last course release. (Thank god I removed and deleted all the rocks and Grass from the Marina Course ... It may have been worse than Gull Island! I wish we had the meter earlier!

Seems it's more complicated. Have a boreal work in progress that is at 80% on the meter and runs smooth in testing on PS4.
I think it has a lot to do with any animated objects as these should be the most computationally heavy and then having too many objects in one place and near the player or field of view. The machines have to calculate shadows and shadow interactions and possible collisions on the fly and this is taxing. Based on the options available there is a "detailed" distance with high quality and full calculations and then everything beyond that the processors spend less effort on. On my WIP there are no animated objects and very little signs etc. also I have tried to keep background trees to a minimum as maybe the blurring of these far objects is another thing that may be though for the processors, again based on that we have the option to turn it off even on consoles. Still surprised it runs smooth as there is a lot of vegetation.
The meter seems to be more just an indication of how many objects have used compared to a fixed maximum.

DDawg, what brushes do you use to make those ridges for your holes? I struggle with the terrain shaping naturally.

This is the meter for my course at time of publishing. Runs 100% smooth on PS4 and from what I hear on decent PCs as well (My box is too old and weak to use as reference). File size: 449kb I have some buildings on the course, but nothing animated at all. Some multi-planting, but limited. Seems all objects are not created equal...
