So, Dave you just finished round 1 at Jebel, what where your impressions? Disappointed.
Would you care to elaborate? My last practice round, I shot a respectable 65, and was looking forward to teeing it up. Very light winds, perfect conditions. Then I promptly make a bogie to start. By the 7th tee was already at +3. Just 6 holes in, and I have pretty much assured myself of not being here for the weekend. I could have just mailed in the rest of the round, but my caddie reminded me that I still have a streak of under par rounds I need to preserve.
That gave me a little boost, and played the last twelve holes in 4 under, to finish with a -1 (71) and keep the streak alive.
So what do you think you need to do in round 2? Honestly, just to keep the under par streak going. Then after the round pack, because unless I shoot a career low round in round 2, or a vicious sandstorm blows in overnight, I will be backing my bags to get some additional practice at Powderidge.
A bit pessimistic. No, not at all. I know that in order to make cuts on this tour, you have to play your best, especially in the first two round. I didn't come close to playing my best, and honestly don't deserve to make the cut playing how I did.
There was some grumbling on social media, and the press from some players about wanting to be demoted to a lower tour. You were outspoken on the subject. Yeah I was. I can't speak for other players, only myself. But when I found out I qualified for the European Tour, I was over the moon. Playing with the best players in the world and seeing if I can compete has been a dream.
Any tour you play there are going to be 30 - 40 players who can and will lap the field every week. Then there are another 100 or so players who vie for the remaining 30-40 spots each week to make the cut.
The way I see it making the tour was an accomplishment, making cuts will be an accomplishment as well. Anything over that will just be icing on the cake.
Dave, thanks for your time, and good luck in round 2.

How did you feel after your first round?
Pretty awful to be honest with you. This course doesn't fit my eye and I have a tough time going anywhere but a few under par.
You finished even though, not a great score but comparable to your practice rounds?
Yes, it was comparable to my practice rounds, my only gripe is that the greens are much too sloped around the hole. For instance i played a foot putt with 2 cups of break, hit it perfectly straight and didnt even sniff the low side of the hole. At one point I was either -3 or -4 and 90%'s and that missed gimme absolutely killed me.
Plans for Round 2? Go low. I don't know how low but i'm guessing around -6 to -10 will be the cut so i'm going to need to be on fire.

What did you think of the course?
Challenging to say the least and the greens that's a story for later
How did you fare on the leaderboard? Who were you trying to beat?
I'm happy with a 65 and besides making the cut I was out I just heard that tonyredevil is the man to beat so..
Can you improve on that 65?
Hell yay just gimme a gallon or two of that Tweeks coffee and I'm good to go....

Good afternoon Acid. Welcome to the ever sunny Emirates. Was your journey into our country uneventful?
Funny you ask. I had an interesting intervention at the airport, nothing to fret about personally, but I will need to be hiring a caddy for the weekend possibly, until my cousin is released that is.
I was advised of your arrival yesterday. On your application I note you are a prominent camel jockey in your country, New Zeeeland? Do you have many deserts? I didn't see any in Lord of the Ring.
Err yes, my cousin completed that application didn't he. Um can we talk about the golf caddy? I need a caddy that show me around this course! I shot a disappointing 1 under and I would also like to talk to the greens keeper. No not to buy him a beer. Those greens are brutal, he needs to spend more time softening the slopes that weeding those lakes. What are lakes doing in the desert anyway. Weird.
Oh well it will be so sad to see you leave our beautiful country so soon Acid. May your second round be as good as your first, and we have no caddy for you. So sorry.
So where can I find a camel?

Before we start I have a question for you reporters. How do I keep managing to follow Acid up here? Am I that boring? Is it because I'm a Yank playing on the Euro Tour? Ok fire away.
How did you think you played today?
Thought I did really well compared to how I fared in practice rounds. Only real complaint or mistake was the 2 bogies. Really wanted to play bogie free because I knew I struggled to shoot lower than 3 or 4 under. Luckily, things came together and I managed to play better than my practice rounds. I will gladly take a 66 on this course. The chip in birdie following the second bogie was huge in keeping my confidence high.
What are your expectations for tomorrow?
I just want to play solid, post a good score, and live to see the weekend.
Hate to run but I want to catch the College Football, yes American football I know I know, championship game.

We now catch up with South African Winner Andi Smith,
HI ANDI HOW DID IT FEEL ON THE FIRST TEE AFTER YOUR DEBUT VICTORY LAST WEEK?
Well, nervous was not the word, pressure seemed tripled from last week and just to tame the nerves I hoyked my tee shot left into rough.
NOT THE START YOU WAS LOOKING FOR HOW DID YOUR ROUND PAN OUT?
Ok in the end I had pars on the first 4 holes but eventually birdied on 5 to settle the nerves, I was 6under thru 14 but a bogey on the last ruined that.
ONLY -5 WHAT DO U NEED TO DO IN ROUND 2 TO BE HERE AT THE WEEKEND?
Im hoping for another 5-6 under to be double figures and hopefully this will be enough to see me here at the weekend.
WHO WAS YOU TRYING TO BEAT AFTER ROUND 1?
Well TONY MCGETTIGAN obviously, always try to be above him, lol, his -8 out done me this time, but newcomer NATHAN ALLEN over from the web.com has been the surprise package so far this week.
HOW WAS THE COURSE?
Its ok, greens are tricky, suttle little putts but I never hit enough fairways in round 1 so now I've got that out of the way I can relax a little now and hopefully play some decent golf.
GOOD LUCK FOR ROUND 2 AND WE WILL CATCH UP WITH YOU AFTER THAT.
Thanks.

Back after his early round 2 tee time is Andi Smith, HI WELCOME BACK, HOW DID ROUND 2 COMPARE TO YOUR FIRST ROUND SCORE?Better, well only a little but better. WHY?Well I hit more fairways, >:DAPART FROM 18 , which in turn meant hitting more greens so im happy with -7 hopefully -12 total we be enough to make the cut. YOU SEEM TO HAVE A LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE 18TH HOLE? LOVE-HATE, (tut) I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT I HAVE DONE TO OFF THE 18TH, BOGEY IN ROUND 1, DOUBLE BOGEY IN ROUND 2, IM TELLING YOU KNOW 18TH HOLE, IF I MAKE THE CUT THIS WEEK, BE WARNED I WILL AND I QUOTE, I WILL TAKE A PAR FROM YOU ATLEAST ONCE THIS WEEK. ....Andi Smith storms out of the press tent... Well that was strong words there from Andi Smith, strangely aimed mainly at the 18th hole,...( TURNS AWAY, QUITE FUNNY THOUGH), Huh hem, Lets see whos next to enter the press tent.

Robert, sitting high on the leader-board after two rounds with -15. Missing the cut last week, what changed?
I think it might have been change of climate and some jet-lag that hurt me last week. Could not get my game going. Worked with my coach on approach shots and got the D913 in the bag for this week and it seems to be paying off. Still feel I left a few putts out there.
You have been navigating the course very well from tee to green. There has been some critique of the greens, what's your take?
Some breaks are tricky, looks to go one way but stays straight. I like it, keeps us on our toes out there. Important to put the work in during the practice rounds. I like the course overall, good test of golf.
What are your expectations for the weekend?
Just go out there and play. Trust the process and then we will see where we stand on Sunday afternoon. There are some great players in front of me, so its going to be exiting.
Thank you!
Sure, any time.

Andy Barton walks into the press tent after completing his second round sitting at -13
Andy, great to see you with a smile on your face again what was the highlight of your first two rounds
generally just getting a bit of consistency in my game, I managed to hit fairways and greens and gave myself plenty of birdie chances and this week my putter has been working a bit better. The individual highlight was getting a bird on the 18th In the first round I don't think I had managed one in any of my practice rounds, it is a very tough finishing hole.
what was the lowlight of your two rounds
two really getting a bogey on 11 in my first round, (I find this a very tough approach shot) and then not managing one bird on the back nine on my second round after getting to -5 at the turn.
What did you think of the course
I enjoyed it but it is certainly a tough track, you have to be accurate with both your drives and approach shots or you can soon rack up a big score. one or two of the pin positions are a bit odd, 17 springs to mind but it is the same for everyone I suppose.
what are your plans now
well hopefully I will be around for the weekend, there are a lot of good players out there still to post scores so it is hard to work out where the cut line will be at the moment .then I will miss next week because of a long planned family holiday, and then back to Dubai for week 4 of the tour.
Thanks for your time
no problem

Dave Mills is coming out of the locker room with a suitcase in his hand.
Dave, what happened this week? I played poorly, even by my low standards. My ball striking was off, my short game was off, my putting was off. Just didn't play well at all.
What did you think of the course set-up, and do you feel that was a factor in your play? No, not at all. I have seen some grumbling about pin placements and the so called "phantom breaks". For me, I liked the set-up, it was challenging but fair. As I mentioned yesterday, my last practice round was a 65, and I was able to play most of my practice rounds between 66 and 69. So it wasn't about the course.
So after two rounds you sit at -2 with back to back 71's, by the looks of things you don't seem very confident. Nope, even though more than half the field hasn't posted their first round scores, and I have seen a few over par rounds, I don't see a point in hanging around here. I am going to go practice for week three. Even if by some miracle, c'mon sandstorm (laughs) it squeaks through, it's not a long trip back. But I believe this course has seen the last of me.
Any positives to take back from this experience? (Smiles) The first two weeks have started kind of backwards for me, making the cut last week, when I didn't think I would at the beginning of the tournament, and going home for the weekend this week, when I thought I could have easily made the cut. Go figure.
Also, another positive is the fact that I maintained my streak of under par rounds, so that's a positive. Looking forward to next week. But gotta run, I was able to book a flight while waiting on the 16th tee, so I am in a bit of a rush to get to the airport.

And just entering the press tent with a broad grin on his face is Jacko who shocked us all with a first round 61 to set the first round pace at -11.
Jacko, stunning round of Golf out there today, let's just take a look at your scorecard....
And i guess what really stands out there is the Ace at Number 3, tell us about that....
A bit lucky really, just a nice high 4 iron, used the breeze to get it going towards the hole and the rest is history. I'd have been delighted with a 2 but obviously thrilled it went in. Little bit of a dip in the middle of your Round?
Yes, a 5 at number 8 may as well be a bogey tbh and bogeying 10 with a sand wedge in hand for my 2nd shot really stung. But you bounced back with an amazing streak of birdies!
The chip in at 12 was massive and shifted the momentum back in my favour. The putts just kept dropping after that and another chip in at 15 - i kind of knew it was my day after that and what happenned at 18 kind of proved it. Making a par after driving it into the thick stuff there was as good as a birdie if i'm honest. So, i guess what we all want to know is can you continue this way?
I really hope so , I was lucky today, let's see if the Golfing gods are still smiling on me tomorrow! EDIT...for those reading (Doyley)

So?... How did it go out there? and why the bewildered look?
I'm confused.. after taking out Jack Oliver's first round -11 with an inspired -12, I had a complete meltdown in the 2nd round and shot -3. I blame it on the new clubs issued by HBS. I buried them in the 18th hole fairway bunker, right next to my ball.
So how are you going to play the rest of the weekend without clubs should you still be here?
Doyley reckons I can use his clubs, but, I have to use my own remote control balls.
Do you think Bradley Garcia can be caught?
Unless he drops a few shots, I don't think so... He's beating the field like a redheaded stepchild at the moment, though there are a couple guys in the field who can still give it a good go. Doyley and Mike Ballon to name a few.
Wanna buy a camel?
One hump or two?
One...
No
Sand?
Get lost!..
Good luck with the rest of the tourney
Cheers

So how did round two treat you Acid after a mediocre round one? Much better once I found a local caddy who could explain the contours of these greens, though he did cost me a camel and my nice new brim straw hat.
Can you elaborate? Sure. Its a hat that is made out of straw, has a wide brim that keeps the sun off of your neck. Not that special to be fair.
No, elaborate on your game. I managed a respectable 68, which, after changing my putter mid week I am very happy about. Probably not enough to make the weekend though I am currently sitting tied for 50th.
Was the camel provided sufficient to your needs? Err yes, most of them.
And any news regarding your regular caddy? Yes, a complete misunderstanding at the airport. Apparently my cousin had inadvertently insulted some Hari Krishners at the airport a decade ago, something about running off with one of the spiritual leaders woman. They have some long memories haha.

•What was the highlight of your 2nd round? Putting on the back 9, made a few long putts....oh and getting lucky with the wind.
•What was the low-light of your 2nd round? Front 9 putting, was getting annoyed. Lipped or ran just over the cup on at least 4 birdie attempts
•How did you fare on the leaderboard? Who were you trying to beat? Was just trying to make the cut after the front 9. My goal before the round started was -6 to -10. Being -2 after the front 9 was annoying but managed to shoot -8 for a 2 round score of -14.
What are you hoping for at the weekend? Hopefully to get another top 10, will probably have to shoot -8 to -10 in both rounds though. Will try and get to -32.
