Just curious as to how you guys play this shot....
Downhill bunker lie over a high lipped bunker to a short sided pin. (close to edge of the green near you)
I really have trouble on this shot.

If I am close to the Green and the Green is running away from me then I will use a partial swing flop shot depending on how close I am to the Green. (I.e. Under 30 or 35 yards)
If the Green is running toward me or flat and I'm not super worried about being on a downhill lie in the bunker I may use a pitch if I am more than 30 yards away from the hole. Or if I'm having particular problems with flop shots (tempo) that day.
My go to shot from the bunker is a flop shot on anything under 35 yards away. I have gotten really good with partial swing flop shot in this game. Even ones that are only 10 yards and under from the hole. I seem to have a knack for getting them close. Pitches on the other hand depending on the lie it's hard to judge distance. If you are on a downhill lie and compensate for the lie in the bunker meaning adding distance sometimes it will fly well over the hole or rollout will be crazy

Micheal, I am speaking of a severe 'downhill lie' with a big lip with the pin less than 20yds away. It seems, more times than not, I will hit the shot over the green or I will chunk the shot and it will stop in the top of the rough short of the green. Just one of the shots that I cannot get a handle on. I can play this shot in real life better than I can in the game.
Thanks for your response.

Just one of the shots that I cannot get a handle on. I can play this shot in real life better than I can in the game. Thanks for your response. Tricky lie. But your only two choices there are going to be a flop shot or a pitch. I can't think of any other kind of shot that's going to work. On the flop shot since you are less than 20 yards from the green you should take a partial swing which means pull it back as fast as you can and when I gets about 3/4 of the way up push down as fast as you can. In my experience with those it's either going to go about the right distance or a little too far but the ball will stop rolling almost immediately. I would never do a pitch in that situation because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to stop the ball. And because I believe you said it was a buried lie which could very well turn bad with the pitch. I'm sorry that's about all the wisdom I have on this which isn't much. But I hope you can get it figured out. I know that regardless of the lie I usually am pretty deadly in sand traps anywhere near the greens. Up and down 90% of the time or more. The downside is that obviously I'm in a lot of sand traps.

You are asking for an easy fix for a shot that should be ridiculously hard to get up and down. You've just hit the ball to wrong place and most likely you will have to pull something out of your arse to get up and down. I, recently hit out of a deep bunker to a pin that was barely on the green. I flopped it onto the fringe and it skipped onto the green and rolled in the hole. If it had not went into the hole, it surely would have been 15 feet or so past the hole despite the fact that it was moving slowly. So, my suggestion on a shot like that: flop it in the hole!
Riddle Solved!
You're welcome.

It's an impossible shot IRL, it's a slightly difficult shot in the game. I don't see what the issue is.
Aside from there being no sand shot in the game.

They should have made short siding much more penal. it is the number one score killer for golfers that know how to strike the ball.

Some days in real life, I think my golf ball has a nose for a 'short sided spot'.

The devs don't understand the game of golf very good. Some physics and shot mechanics are far away from reality. And the excessive loft/deloft feature ..... well, sad.
