Was meaning to come back to this thread to post about an observation I had last night.
Playing with a stock, newish PS4 controller. Using right thumb stick. Pull back the stick slowly but steady, making sure stick hits dead bottom (straight), you can almost just barely flick your thumb and the downswing happens. Not pushing the stick all the way forward. The stick never hits the stop going forward. The resistance on the stick I guess keeps it in line. Because I have gotten several just about perfectly straight (on the screen) swings doing this. And either perfect or fast downswings. I find there is a slight pause that has to happen after the pull back so that you do not get the fast downswing using this method.
I know I am not describing this too good. And you have to do that little flick with the thumb (really lightly) with just the right motion for it to happen. But once I get one of these, I can usually repeat it about 5 times before I lose the exact technique again. Then I will use the practice swing thing to work it out.
For me it is harder to do this on approaches, because I tense up more on them, and tend to flick a little to hard, or not enough (does not register a downswing). Anybody else know what I am talking about there? Maybe that can describe it better?
