So I played 3 rounds this afternoon just fine. After a few holes in round 4 I started slicing or hooking every single shot I took. So I tried some practice swings, and couldn't get a single straight swing.
I restarted the game, disconnected and reconnected my controller, calibrated my analog stick, and went into the driving range. Spent a full 30 minutes just taking swings and I haven't been able to get a *single* straight shot. Normally I have no problem with it.
Any clue as to what I could be doing wrong? Has anyone else ever had this problem?

That happened to me for 1 hole only luckily, was going to try & drive a par 4 at Oakmont & took a couple of practice swings, then another 3or 4 .Everyone way outside cone, changed to hybrid, exactly same,4 or 5 practice swings way outside cone.Decided there wasn't much point in any more practice swings, hit the hybrid way right & played out the hole with same problem.Next hole everything was ok again, this was with tour clubs 😕

Spent a full 30 minutes just taking swings and I haven't been able to get a *single* straight shot. Normally I have no problem with it. Any clue as to what I could be doing wrong? Has anyone else ever had this problem? This has been happening to me since day one. Started practicing with the Tour Clubs, and after hitting 100's of balls and receiving 95% of my shots outside the cone I gave up on them. Dropped to the Standard set and found the accuracy to be similar to the original game, but found the challenge I wanted with the new game wasn't there, so I moved to the Player Clubs. It took me a while with these clubs to find a position with my controller where I was hitting fairly regularly inside the cone. Having then started to enjoy the game, I now find myself hitting the vast majority my shots outside the cone again, even though my position with the controller hasn't changed. In all the years I've been involved with the game of golf I have yet to meet anyone who's swing was so erratic that one shot would go left, and then another go right, you either did one or the other. But what I'm getting at here is, if I hit a shot that wasn't consistent with my regular swing, I immediately knew what I did wrong. But in this game I can hit one shot left outside cone and the another right and have no idea what the difference in my swing was. Instead of this game giving you a visible readout showing you've hit your ball left, which you don't need as you can see your ball going bloody left, they should have given you a visual readout showing the cause of your hook or slice. At least you would have some indication on what you did wrong, assuming you did anything wrong?

Yep happened to me today for a round and a half, nothing even close to straight. Took an extended break, plugged the controller in rather than bluetooth and it settled down. Think the plugging-in thing is placebo tho. Extended break prob was useful. But for the first time today... it did just feel a bit random. So far I've been happy to chalk up small inconsistent streaks as poor technique.

So far I've been happy to chalk up small inconsistent streaks as poor technique. That's how I've felt up until today. I've gotten into a "funk" in the past where a little bit of a reset was needed. But today that wasn't the case. I literally took over 50 swings in the driving range and couldn't manage a single straight shot. They were all inside the cone, but *right* on the border. As if the inner 80% was off limits. I dunno. I hate to be a whiner, but I just can't imagine any way that I would go from 80-90% straight to 0% straight in an instant without something being screwed up with the game. If it was just my thumb being screwy, I imagine I'd at least be getting some straight shots by "mistake".

I've experienced this too (PS4). I've found that when this happens (normal swing suddenly yielding hooks), The swing needs to be modified. Set up in practice swing mode, and then (if you're a RH player using the right stick) instead of a 6:00 - 12:00 swing, try a 7:00 to 1:00-1:30 swing. You might even get away with a 7:00 - 12:00 swing. It's annoying not being able to use the same swing, but this modification has worked for me.

Your comments above are exactly why HB Studios have have missed the trick here. In real golf, no two players golf swing is the same. Some may look identical, but a closer look would still reveal slight differences. So setting up the Tempo Swing in the TGC2, while assuming everyone holds the controller and moves the thumb stick the same way are the reasons why some players are finding the Tour Clubs usable, while others are not. Everybody won't hold the controller and move the thumb stick the same way, because physically we are all different. In the game when you are setting up your golfer's profile, there should have been an option to set-up your own personal swing based on the way you hold and use your controller. This could easily have been done by just hitting 25 balls with a driver while holding the controller in a way that feels comfortable. There will be a point in everyone's swing that would be consistent, and this consistency may come from just 6 of the 25 balls you hit, as the rest were all over the place. But it's this consistency that your swing should have been based on in the game. So you are affectively calibrating your controller based on your own physical ability to hit a straight shot. The guys at HBS, have to do something in order to create a level playing field.

Easy fix. When you start to yank it - relax, play a few rounds with Standard clubs and come back a day later. It REALLY helps.
I have lost it a few times and change to Standard clubs, had fun again and then after a few rounds go back to Players and I'm fine.
Everyone seem to think it's the game or their thumb but look at the angle the controller is at when you swing. You might be surprised it's not 100% straight.

This was me earlier today. Literally all over the course. It makes no sense to me that one minute you're hitting it pretty straight, the next you're just inside or even outside the cone, getting nowhere near the centre.I could understand a little variance, but not go night and day different? This was on PC btw. It doesn't seem as bad on PS4? I can get on a bad run of shots on PS4 and one round can feel pretty different to the last, but to nowhere near the extent that it happens on PC. The game is very unbalanced in its current state. It seems to be completely down to what controller you use and whether servers are giving you lag at bad times, affecting your swing, or just blind luck! I might boot the game up later and start hitting it incredibly straight for a while, with the same swing that i was using earlier? Making the Tour swing all about hitting it straight was a huge mistake. Tempo should be the most difficult thing about the swing.

PS4 here. Last night I had to stop playing because of this. Four rounds played with no problems at all... then flying bananas way out of the cone again and again. There's something really wrong with this game.

I've had once so far - just after the patch. Half way through a round started to hit wild left & right seemingly randomly. Taking a break and plugging the controller in helped.
