Consider yourselves a focus group here.

If done properly it might be cool, but it could very easily just be a gimmick that ruins a course.

300 feet seems a little bit much... played a course IRL a few weeks ago that a couple 130ft drops from tee and that felt a little ridiculous (although a lot of fun to bomb drives that stay in the air forever).
But given its a video game... why not!

For a one off bit of fun, why not. Not every hole on every course has to be 100% sensible.

We have two courses in San Antonio that have massive drops to the fairway.. One has a tee shot off the cliff of an old Rock Quarry.. Beautiful Hole.. View from the tee:

300 feet? On a par 5, sure, could be fun. On a par 3, kill it with fire.

One of my older designs had one hole with a drop of 370 ft, was a dogleg that could produce approaches anywhere from 120-360+ into the green (it was a 650-something yard hole). It was so damn fun to playtest and, though very unrealistic, was the highlight of the course. My Xbox buddies did give me hell for it though, and to this day I get asked if my course will feature a ski lift.

I've played a few courses with something like that, and I'm not sure any of them really made it work. I might try a hole with a 100 or so foot drop, that could definitely work and spice things up without becoming just a gimmick.

ive played a real course with about 100 foot drop, you had to carry the ball an easy 225 to make the fairway from the tees i was playing (not the tips) but it was quite the frighting shot as dense forest surrounded the fairway on all sides, including short. knowing me...i hooked it left into the pines, ......and it bounced back out lol. but ya, fun standing up there looking at the potential 300+ drive, until you try to give it a little extra and then realize, slow and steady wins the race.

It would be cool, but I think you might need to lower it just a bit. From all the testing I've done, going from anywhere over 200ish just gives off a bad view where you can't see the hole below. If you can execute it well, though, yeah it would be awesome!

If its a 300 foot drop from tee to green, I say go for it. If its only tee to fairway, I'd do 200-225 foot drop.
