Before I begin, the good players will probably laugh at one who is struggling to break 80 giving a tip, but here goes. I am a duck hooker in the game and cannot get past the fast downswing. I play with tour clubs. I have seen the rough on most holes on the left side of the fairway and made many double bogies because of this. If you deem this a bad tip, let me know why.
Being a 'visual person', I was trying to watch the backswing with mostly bad results. My new method is that I watch the backswing and when I see the button on the golfers shirt appear from under the arms, I start my downswing. I also set my swing up to one click 'fade'. I am getting perfect backswings every time, but still fast downswings, but the duck hook has turned into a draw which I can control better. Sometimes it seems that I do lose a little distance. This eliminates the misses on the right side of the fairway. You may need to adjust the fade further and see if it helps.
Anyway, this may not work for you strugglers, BUT, it might help some and if it does, I am glad to help just a little. If anyone has anything to add feel free to tell me, or tell me I am crazy.
In real life, I am a single digit player so I do know about the golf swing. Eliminating misses on one side of the fairway is a step in the right direction.

Billy I was also duck hooking left most shots because of a fast downswing I just worked at it until I got the tempo down. What controller do you use, I play on Xbox and rest my thumb on the controller as light as possible but if I put to much pressure on the draw comes back. I do play for the draw now nine times out of ten and it works but when I was hooking I used the swing adjust to setup for a slice to straighten it out, I noticed Matt10 doing it on his twitch feed. Keep playing mate I hope to see you again in some of the events.

As a real golfer myself, I always want to move the ball in one direction (a draw, right to left). So using the Tour clubs, I'm lining up 5-10 yards right of the target and with driving, lining up right side of fairway, and making a swing trying to hit a draw. When it draws, it is perfect, when it hooks too much, I still am on the green of left side of the fairway. (However, with this new swing, there is still a % of the time with over-hooking and which case it's scramble time! Go to the range and start with a swing with a slight pause at the top. You'll get the slow backswing. Work to shorten the pause until it's a smooth transition (like real golf) and you'll get to perfect perfect. As to swinging too much right or left, I find rotating the controller ever so slightly clockwise or counter-clockwise in your hands (PS4 controller for me) and making the same swing can help reduce the out of cone swings. Good luck, it's not meant to be easy, and it's not, but SO much more satisfying than the robotic auto-pilot swing from TGC1.

Brownie, just curious, do you use the standard PS4 dual shock controller? I think I need a new one.
Part of my struggles have been with glitches and I am not sure that it may be the controller.

Standard PS4 controller, mine if probably 5 years old and used almost everyday. Don't think you are going to get dead straight perfect perfects. I've played since day one release and maybe had 3 total. But that is why I went to playing a right to left shot. I use a pinching method with my thumb and index finger. If I use just a thumb as many do, I'm WAY off, so try some different methods. Also, the forward movement of the stick is much slower than what we were used to in TGC 1 where we could slam the stick forward. I also watch the ball and player when swinging.

Fade for me. @brownief104

Fade for me. @brownief104 "You can talk to a fade but a hook won't listen." I find I use whatever my thumb is doing on the day it's mostly a draw but I have played a full round with the fade. That's probably the beauty of this game.
