Can i get some Pointers?

I know this is going to come of as a bit of a "Rant", but i legitimately can not seem to put a even remotely consistent round together. I've never golfed in real life, but i've done a fair amount of reading on the sport in terms of the mechanics behind playing the game, Wind, Loft, Lies, Rough, Swing, etc.. I was hoping to make the move from Tiger Woods to this platform seeing as their latest PGA tour title was a joke in terms of features. 

I understand there is going to be a learning curve with this game, i've seen/read the warnings, But i can't seem to put together anything.. Easiest settings and im still struggling to maintain +7.
I need some help understanding what im actually doing wrong.. Some of this i know is clearly me, but i can't help but see other issues present in the game

Some of this i believe to be some issues with the game
    Green Grids not accurately showing slope (No slope is shown, but the ball acts as if a fair amount of slope is present, and vice versa
    Im going for a 12ft putt, Constant left to right, I adjust, and the ball travels in a straight line through the entire distance
    Green Grids showing slight left or right movement, but upon putting ball rolls the other direction slightly, This is rare (Two occasions out of a dozen rounds)
    occasionally driving from the tee will result in a random additional 20+ yards, on a perfect/perfect tempo.. Example, Was 180-185Yrds from the hole, used my 1i (188yrd), 8mph head wind.. 5ft up hill,, Add a little loft to catch more wind and shorten up the carry distance, also not roll out the back of the green.. Perfect swing as far as i can tell, straight up the middle, perfect tempo.. and it carries the ball 20-25Yrd past the hole into the rough..

I've made constant adjustments regarding these situations, assuming i missed something,, Perhaps the terrain behind me was alot taller then i though and i started off on some strong slope, or perhaps the left side of the grid and right side are equal, thus showing no slope, and im putting on top of the crown.. Which may be, I font know of a way to actually verify if this is the case, until after the put

I've spent 6+ hrs a day since friday playing this, and im not able to wrap my head around any of this to even begin to understand where i need to make corrections, and its starting to feel like every swing is a lottery.. you can plan all you want, and execute it perfectly.. But there is a 20% chance you will have catastrophic results.. I understand golf can be a very punishing sport.. But i dont know where else to go to get the game down pat.. I keep playing and playing and getting worse and worse.. I can't make the game any easier, But i feel there isn't enough consistency for me to make any informed decisions.. the same inputs have yet to yield even remotely comparable outputs..

I keep playing the dang thing hoping to make progress, but im going to have to buy a new controller here real soon if this doesn't stop feeling like luck instead of skill

Not sure I can be a lot of help - I'm just an average player and this is a new game.

As for the greens, that is an issue that plagued TGC1 as well. You can check the green from the ground level cam and start to learn a bit the indicators that the beads aren't showing you the truth. No exact science to it except experience over a lot of playing.

Distance control is something you'll learn as well. Remember the yardage indicator for a club is the carry distance. You need to account for wind and slope of the green. The other important aspect is the firmness of the green (larger roll out on firm greens, minimal on soft). And the club length dictates how far it rolls out. There are charts developed for the first game that you can use to start understanding things. I didn't personally rely on that though. For example, a 150 shot into a medium firm green, I'll probably try to land it 143-145 depending on slope. Same example with a 200 yard shot, I'd land it 185-190.

Wind and elevation is something to pay attention to as well. Every 3 ft of elevation, add or subtract a yard. Headwind I added 1.5 per MPH. Tailwind I subtract about 1.0 per MPH.

All that said, this new game I'm still learning and the winds seem a bit different. The slope of your lie affects the shot more too.

Once you get to the point things are more predictable, it's just about execution.

Sounds to me by your example it wasn't head wind it was tail wind which should be subtracted from yardage which shouldve put it around 172-175 yds which a full 6iron would do

I thought i had misread the wind as well bgjimall, But after watching the replay it was confirmed head wind.. Which blew my mind

I had it happen a few times last night as well, Pull up chipping a shot 16-20yards out, Pull back, and suddenly i'm burying the ball 40-60 Yards past my target, Even went back through replays and the Hud displays the appropriate Chip carry distance.. Ie 12Yard carry, leads to a 45yrd carry.. as far as the putting goes, If its been an issue since one, couldn't they solve it by shrinking the grid size.. Perhaps that would cause a performance issue (smaller grid squares, more sampling being done).. I also think that Centering the grid line on the ball would give you better view of crowns and valleys.. or perhaps only reduce the grid size down the single column the ball resides in, split it into thirds, to provide more information to the player

Its not going to stop me from playing, as i enjoy a good technical challenge, I just want my challenges to be related to golf and not random bugs that turn it into a game of luck
