I'm seeing something in the courses selected as "good" courses, that at least to me just don't make sense. Rocks at least in my opinion don't belong on Golf courses. By rocks I mean the large scale ones that just seem to pop up when your doing land sculpting. These can be removed, although it is a rather long and painful process.. If someone is going to spend all the time sculpting the landscape, setting a theme, time of day, putting in trees and plantings, putting in bunkers and water, why of all things would they go and leave rocks everywhere. Then on top of that have the courses rated as tour material ? I've played courses in my area, which is to say rather limited as the world goes, but I don't recall seeing large amounts of rocks everywhere.

Short drive from my house. Only appropriate for a course called "The Rock" to have some rocks.

I find it a bit funny that a lot of the courses get dinged for blind shots and rough not correctly being blended amongst other things, but its OK to have rocks littered all over the course.

rocks are natural terrain in many parts bruce, i have a course 4 miles from my house that has bedrock just beneath the surface, and it shows on a few holes in big gapping fashion, right in the middle of the fairway, and to top it off, one of those massive rocks is right in my landing area.

I understand about natural rock outcroppings, we have a lot of ledge here in New England. What i'm talking about is rocks strewn all over the courses, usually mostly in the rough. these are just rocks created by the course designer when changes are made to elevations. I have worked on 3 courses so far and find the course designer just seems to create these at random. The thing thats getting me is there not supposed to be there, and with a little care can be removed. Thats the thing there not being removed and the courses are still getting high ratings.

I think it might be a carry over from early access days where even if you hit it in the ruff you could drop it by the pin, however if its behind a rock well now you have a shot penalty.
There has been a tweek or 2 since then and now heavey ruff actually can add a stroke
