So you guys know that I've been around for a while and have put out a few courses. I personally feel like I've done well with planting and sculpting, but I still haven't figured out how to plant, and it's getting annoying. I see all this empty space, and I know I need to plant, but I don't know where to start.
Anyway, I just really want some tips on planting, as one of my courses is autogen planting, one is essentially no planting, and another is simply multi-plant. Thanks in advance.

This may not be the answer but it has served me pretty well
I begin at the tee area and make sure the planting is nice around the entire area.... Small bushes around some trees, grasses individually planted around those, or rocks or whatever depending on what look you are after
Then around 250-300 out (Approach shot) I plant this well and make it look nice same as above
Then the greensite and surrounding area, I do the same...
Essentially I focus more on these three areas where you the golfer will spend the majority of your time looking around...
If you look at Brookgreen (Not not plugging just giving an idea) I put the above to use in those areas for the most part... Hole 7 I believe it is, to the left of the green is some of my favorite personal planting the small bushes, grasses, and rocks around the lake wall every last one of those planted individually.... another hole is #1 at Barra da Tijuca I did the same there.....
It takes a lot of time, and I am by no means the best planter of a course, BY FAR I'm not, but This is just the style I choose, its not "Do it this way" .... Just a couple thoughts..
One thing that is a pet peeve of mine is the "away from the course" lack of planting....Example a course that may be beautiful but zero attention has been paid to the surround course, basically the holes are outlined with trees and plantings, but the outlying portions of the course have not been touched at all....Just barren space...Use the entire plot make it as realistic as possible....Take a drive on a country road and look at the undergrowth and such around trees and woods and such....I know that sounds silly but Ive often gotten ideas doing that very thing
Again this is probably not the best answer, positive there are MANY folks that do it MUCH better than me, just my thoughts and my way of tackling it
