In an effort to try to force myself into not scrapping a course without completing it, I'm going to host this thread as a form of accountability.
Lonely Pines Golf Club derives its names from the single patch of evergreens that are found on the plot of land the course is being built in northern Minnesota. The course will be a department from the typical target golf found throughout much of the state, and instead will require players to be imaginative with how they play holes. On many of the holes the best way to get the ball close will be to land short of the green and utilize the natural sloping terrain to run the ball up close to the pin.
Hole 1 - 423 yards - Par 4
The first hole is an uphill par 4 featuring a pair of bunkers laid in natural depressions in the middle of the fairway. In calm winds these bunkers should not come into play, however should the wind be blowing either in your face or a cross wind, the tee shot will require some precision.
Provided a good drive is hit, the golfer should be left with a mid iron to a large two tiered green that continues uphill away from the lake. A pin placed on the upper tier is protected by a bunker that shots short will fall into, while the lower tier has a much smaller landing area but has less danger around it.
Hole 2 - 218 yards - Par 3
The second hole is s slightly uphill par 3 that plays anywhere from 145 to 240 yards, although the tee boxes will typically play further back. The green is large and slopes from back to front. The green features a few ridges that help funnel the ball towards the areas the superintendent has stated he prefers to place pins. The green is protected by two large bunkers to the right as well as a third bunker short that requires precision for shots landed short of the green.
Here is a flyby of the two holes as they currently lay. Note hardly any planting has been done or will be done until I finish laying out all 18 holes, and possibly not until TGC2 (hoping planting is faster on console)
