For golf fans who love architecture, after all, Augusta National is always the most interesting character in the field. In fact, it has 18 compelling personalities.
Well folks, get ready, the best course ever is coming to the Golf Club soon.
I started with a complete blank slate, not 1 hole, 1 bunker, 1 tree or 1 green has been auto generated. The entire grid was flattened and raised 20 feet to allow for Augusta elevation changes. Using google maps etc, I am reproducing Augusta National to the last detail. Even the holes that almost over lap each other, reproduced, every mound, every turn, every bunker, every green, reproduced.
I'm intending on it playing with Sunday pins as well.
Sneak Peek
1 . FWY Overhead
2 Tee
3 tee.
3 FWY
4 days , 40 hours work, only 8 holes done.
Back to work I go folks.
I hope you will enjoy my bucket list course.
Take care

Steve, Thanks for posting. That's quite the undertaking.
Augusta is coveted and anyone who attempts its creation is going to have players far and wide critiquing it's every nook and cranny. You can only do the best you can with the tools and objects you have and so I think at this point in the games progression, it can only be so realistic.
For me, the trees look a little too uniform and need more variation. Augusta has a lot of tall pines. While it does have some deciduous trees, they aren't typically oaks towering over the fairways. The deciduous trees there are more shorter varieties that are not as tall as many of the pines.
Because of the above, Augusta doesn't have so much color in the fall. And people typically think of Augusta as a spring course because of the masters. So I'm wondering if maybe the Rural theme might suite it better? Of course, then you have the mountains in the background so there's that. Tough call.
I wish you the best with your effort. It's a daunting task to be sure.

You are quite right, thank you, going to do a complete tree re-do. Who am I to think that I can improve on an iconic design like that.

12 Tee.
I could hardly wait, skipped a few holes and went to 12.
Also on the advice of Smiling goats, I'm doing a complete tree re-do. I was initially trying to hide all the generated crap, however I figured out how to carpet bomb all that crap, so now with true Augusta views you can see through the trees to the other holes.
1 tee.
2 tee

as long as your yardage and bunkers are ok along with approx elevations then you will get my vote all day long m8, so many designers that aint got the balls to undertake a real course yet they rip your creation to bits with glee....my sahalee course been rated 3.75 on here, reviewer says it can get a bit repetitive...lol, ummm its a real life course, it's supposed to be the way it is....i don't pay any due attention to reviews anymore, not one person is qualified to critique a course here...good luck steve, look forward to it m8.

Nice to see you on here DoGgz, Jamie Donaldson Rules.
I agree with DoGgz I know you can't get the surroundings 100% accurate but as long as the course is a good representation then I'm ok with that.
I clicked on a course the other day titled TPC Sawgrass and I thought I'd give it a go. It looked like someone had gone on GNCD and just done 3 clicks and published it. This is one of the reasons I like courses to be checked before publication.

I'm originally from Augusta and have been lucky enough to play there several times. Just a tip on your elevation: The first green is the highest point on the course and Rae's Creek is the lowest. The elevation difference between the 2 points is 175 feet. The 10th hole alone has a 116 foot drop from the tee to the lowest point in the fairway.

Well then I certainly blew it then, I raised the whole grid 50 feet before I started, never played it for real and used google, ea sports, the master site etc, however never seen anything give me the level of detail I needed to get the elevations completely accurate.

No, you didn't blow it...you just didn't know. The good thing is that viewing any one of the holes on a computer monitor or TV will have the same effect as the TV broadcast of the Masters does. A 50-foot drop on the 10th hole in-game will seem just as accurate as viewing the 10th hole during tournament play.
