Well we've hit the Florida Swing, and I find myself looking at my pics from last year, drinking out of my souvenir Masters cups, and wondering when the 2019 ticket lottery opens. I guess maybe it's time to dust this one off and see what can be done with it? I sincerely hope you do I MUCH prefer your version to ANY other out there. Would love to play the masters on yours!

Did some light perimeter work around the course, but still a ton more to do in that regard. In the past week I've mostly done work on some of the greens, cleaning up fairway and rough/pine needle lines, some color changes, and adding some small details. I've touched 1-9, and 18 so far, but plenty still left to do. In the meantime, I cruised around and took some low light pictures, and lightly edited them (they look slightly grainy to me after posting, though, not sure what the deal is).

Yeah, they have the land, so should be a relatively easy addition, and I guess from what I've read the players mostly support it too. Seems like an ego play to me, though. I guess they don't like the players all taking 3 wood off the tee, even though it historically plays over par and as the 5th toughest hole. Was 6th toughest last year 3 out of 4 days.

I like the update you did for the CC-Am version, nice touches with adding some more perimeter roads and buildings, adding the brick wall behind 11 green, adding the Augusta CC holes running along Rae's Creek & cleaning up heavy rough border around pinestraw....just a few things that jumped out at me.

Released my final update before the Masters. "Magnolia National (CC Qualifier)". This has medium settings, and green speeds around 170.
I completed some work on the front 9, the 18th hole, and 10-12. Still some work to do on the 12th green, as well as 13-17, and a whole bunch of details to work on. I am going keep hammering away at it, and either during the final round of the Masters or shortly after I will release a new version with the 2018 pins and firm settings. After that all work will continue to be done in preparation for TGC 2019.

This is amazing to a newbie like me. Any tips! Maybe. What kind of tips are you looking for? In regards to a course update, I did a lot of work around 12 and 13 to update and refine the look a little more. Otherwise I've been working on a update to the Par 3 course that I should have out just before Masters week. The course itself is in pretty good shape and I have already made the necessary updates there. Most of the work is around the perimeter with details. I worked on a ton of details behind the 1st hole and along the 2nd hole last night, and then my game froze and I lost somewhere between 30-45 mins of work. Those are project killers. On a different note, this is a great thread and a recommended lookthrough for any course history buffs: www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,61416.0.html I have no interest in trying to create a 1934 version of the course, or anything like that, but I may be interested in trying to hypothetically take the existing course, and pretend that the club was looking to try and restore some of the lost architectural interest with a few changes here and there. This could be widening the playing corridors and adding back in some quirk to the bunkers and greens. That 9th green could be wild!

I just want to know how you get it so accurate to the course. It looks and feels so good and true. Re the freezing I've taken to saving before I move anything that's been planted. That's when it usually goes on mine. When I need to move a bit of grass about a foot and freeze.

Hey @stowey, I wrote about the process back in the day: blog.tgctours.com/real-course-creations-embrace-the-process/To summarize, if you want to do a good RCR you basically have to be doing it for yourself, not the community. You need to have a fascination with the course, the architect, or both, and just use all of the resources out there to take a deep dive into the course and it's history. It's a great way to learn about course architecture, and if you search long enough there is a near endless amount of geeky material for any famous or classic course. And just be ready to take a really, really long time on it. The last sentence there is where most people abandon the RCR process, because the allure and rush of pressing the "Publish" button is too strong.

theclv24 thanks for the links, that article on rcrs is great. It's woke me up to things and processes I was previously unaware of. Nice one

If I could only play two courses on this game for the rest of my life it would be CLV’s Magnolia and Royce’s Augusta both superb recreations. Thanks guys

An update to the Par 3 was released last night, Magnolia National Par 3 (2018).
Just some cleanup to the course and some different textures. Most of the work done was around the perimeter of the course to place it a little better in its surroundings.
The two pins from last year have not changed, other than being mixed and matched. Pin 1 is the fun set, to me, with the most chances for an ace, while Pin 2 is a little harder.

I finished up my tweaks to the rest of the greens a few days ago, and was going to sit on it until releasing a 2018 pins version, as I don't want a ton of different versions of the course out there. Upon cleaning up the greens, though, I was able to tweak one pin each on the 15th and the 17th to get them in the right position, and those greens should be much more accurate. These changes don't matter much if I don't re-release the 2017 pins, though, and I want to play them in wind this week, so I guess another release is imminent.
I will try to get it published after work today, either before or after the Michigan game.
