In my opinion, it's all about the putting. I have been playing since day 1. I can drive the ball with the best of them and the iron play is not bad. I leave 3 or 4 shots on the greens very round and those kill you on the tour.

I'm in CC-E also - and I have to agree with the majority here where putting is concerned. I don't know how many times I've shot a beautiful tee and approach shot, only to screw it up with a couple of bad putts. I also agree 100% with coruler2 - I always try for an uphill putt wherever possible.

If you're still reading this: Figure out what your goal is, short and long term. Saying "I want to improve" is good, but a little general. Do you want to move up to CC-D? By when? Be specific in your goals, and make sure you are still having fun and enjoying the game. (Don't be too long term, there's a rumor out there that TGC2 might be coming Figure out how far the carry distance is for your irons, especially in the wind. There's good information out there that covers this. Play live, head to head with other players. If you don't do that now, start ASAP. It's good fun, and the real time competition will help you to improve quicker than playing alone. Short game, short game, short game. Figure out how to get up and down from anywhere. The putting is absolutely the thing that sets the big boys apart. It's the part of this game I still struggle with. I don't know how you're putting is, but I'll bet you can improve.

-Learn the math on how the wind affects the carry. There are great threads on this forum about this subject but annother way to find out is on the course 'wind test'. -Learn how to adjust for cross winds. -Learn to hit straight. When you loft up the driver one bar you should be able to hit within the cone 20 times in a row, that's what i mean with hitting straight. -Learn how to putt. -Practice your ass off and study the roll and bounce of the ball on different terains.

Switch to Xbox and get yourself a Xbox elite controller π You will be a top 5 player in no time. Elite controller? What can that do? Im intrigued? My maths is pretty good, will my game improve if i purchase? Switch to Xbox and get yourself a Xbox elite controller π You will be a top 5 player in no time. This game is about math and feel. Make sure you've got the math down tight. As stated above read Doyley's spreadsheets. Once that is down you can use it to dial in your feel, for wind, bounces, outting, etc... Or you can buy an XBOX elite controller.

What helped me when the game came out was going into the designer and creating a few holes (makes no difference if its auto gen or not) and you can put the ball wherever you want to practice. The best part about it is you can rewind the shot each time and rehit it using different loft, draw/fade or pitches and flops which helps you get a better distance feel seeing as there is no wind in the designer. You can change the firmness and speed of greens too which helps understanding with run out of approach shots.
Just save your course and never publish it and it will always be there for you. Hopefully the driving range on TGC2 will be easier than creating in the designer. Just to add to Chis' excellent post, you can also try your course with wind by first choosing the Go Offline option from the game start screen, and then playing a round on it. When I go offline and back into my driving range the wind is only 1MPH still?

Thanks for clarifying.... I should have been more clear. That's the only (minor) gripe I have about TGC... no manual. I wonder how many others have no idea that you can play test a course this way. On the other hand, that's one of the many big plus points about TGCT -- plenty of experience and help to draw on here.
