This could create a good discussion among bands / artists who people feel are underrated. Below is my top 10. Note this is not my all time favorite bands, just ones I feel don't get the recognition they deserve please also note my list is in no particular order. My all time favorite bands are listed on another thread.
1. Skid Row- great stuff but doesn't get talked about enough.
2. Nick Lowe
3. Steely Dan
4. Genesis band led by Phil Collins
5. Orleans
6. Rush- Canadians may disagree with me about 6 and 7 but here in the states I feel they are underrated.
7. Bachman Turner Overdrive
8. Thin Lizzy
9. Toto
10. Supertramp

Slave to the grind is one of my all time favorite albums from anyone...so raw and heavy  ..you ought to listen to some of Sebastian Bach's solo stuff...really heavy stuff |

I don't have a real list, but one band that deserves a lot more mention is MGMT.

Bjork! I know Radiohead are massive anyway but I personally think they should be alongside The Beatles for best band ever. Manic Street Preachers are local to me so I'm biased but they're great. Two of my favourite bands that's all - totally biased. Not really the most happy music either.
It's funny I'm tempted to put bands I grew up loving but not sure it was just my era? Anyway try Gomez, Super Furry Animals.
