You know, I played this course almost as a joke - and then quickly admonished myself for doing so. It is actually a well-designed course, and the amount of time the designer has put into it must be insane. Leaving aside the name - yes, it is lame (if appropriate) - and the unorthodox premise - ok, white stripes around everything, and 2 bands of mulch around that? - you know what? This is actually a good golf course! It has a very clean look, in part because of those oh-so-unorthodox stripes, and the designer obviously understands cut transitions, contouring, bunkering, and the subtleties of plantings and green complexes. Seriously - aside from the greens being soft and slow and easy, the hole routings actually are challenging and thought-provoking in many cases, and with a bit more firmness and maybe moving a few pins, the greens would be quite daunting as well, but fair. The "eye-candy" - the soccer pitches and ice skating rinks and fencing and - are those vinyards? - wooden plank paths and so forth - are obviously done by someone very familiar with the GNCD's subtleties and an eye for aesthetics. I fancy ArcticFury himself couldn't do most of these things any better. Honestly, I went into this course half-assed, but finished it with respect for this designer's abilities. I would really like to see him do a course without any unorthodox gimmicks like the white stripes and mulch bands, and I have a suspicion that it would be an excellent course. Give it a play, I say, and you might find yourself having a nice round of golf - I did!
