NOW PUBLISHED: *Cairn Orchard 2017*. Significant reshaping and contouring done. New planting. Worst holes reworked. Best holes retouched. About 40hrs of work to restore this course to modern conditions and beauty.
Hope everyone enjoys!
Below pictures show a comparison of the changes and new course
Hole1 FW to Green: Green reshaped, water cuts in front of green now, new fairway shaping and planting. New tee. Etc
Hole4: The split fairway remains on the drive, but now the right-side of the divide features trees and shrubs and rocks instead of rough hills. Green resmoothed. Hole touched up
Hole6: Significant overhaul. No longer a sloppy fairway. Green complex completely redone w/ new trap and green contouring. Fairway changed, bunker added. Etc.
Hole7: Not much changed...new trees and planting. Redone rough around the green. Resculpted backdrop. Same fun pin location!
Hole8: Significant overhaul. New smoothed and contoured fairway. Trap redone with new shapes. Ugly 2nd shot redone- trap removed, fairway reshaped, water cuts in, new planting, new green.
Hole9: Drive reconfigured. New tee, redone bunker (but still a trickier tee shot). Redone green, new trap, new cairn behind green, smoothing and contouring redone.
Starting to work the back nine and then final polishing.

the light rough texture is offputting to me. I'd keep messing with it. If you modify lighting slightly it can make it less jarring. The other thing I'd say is to maybe consider either putting a little fairway around the green entirely (just a little bit) or at lease working a little more on the way the fairway enters the green so there are no "corners" and they join up pretty much seamlessly. It's a pain but it's doable. You're close in that one green "after" shot but still not quite smooth.
You can totally ignore me too since it's your course :-) Just figured I'd share since I like this track and am looking forward to the update.

You're one of the masters Reeb, so I'll gladly take any advice you have. I know what you mean w/ the light rough...it looks good in some lighting, but not others. I'll definitely tinker. I can't make the sun too low on this course because the tree density is one of the trademarks...don't want to make a shadowy mess. But I haven't finalized any of that yet.
I have one course where I put thin fairway around the greens...but haven't done on others, don't like the double transitions and it makes it tougher to put bunkers closer. Not sure how I will blend it better...but I will work on it. It's one of many things I'm not good at doing yet. I did max out the fringe thickness to try to make the transition to the rough not as jarring...especially since this course has quite a few holes where there's no fairway leading to the front of the green.

Updates for all holes complete, playing nice. Can't figure out how to improve the lighting without opening up a bunch of trees and gaps which I don't really want to do. Also don't want a shadowy mess. Going to play with it for a few days before release and see what looks best.
