Hey guys, I'm going to start a series over the holidays where I playthrough everyone's courses and offer some feedback. It's been a while! FYI I am NOT a judge and my feedback/critiques may or may not (probably will not) reflect the judges decisions. I will post each play through on my youtube channel and link them in here. I'll start by the order they were released...at least try to. My first set of playthroughs will be TONIGHT (Dec 18) at 9pm EST/6PM PST on the TGCTLive! twitch channel. Now Crazycanuck1985 you can stay calm, as my course won't be as hard as the one I prepared for week 9 of the PGA Canuck was very relieved by the difficulty (or lack thereof) of my course. |

Missed the live stream of Nenestin Estates, but just caught up on it. Gotta say, thanks much for the kind words and compliments, Crazycanuck1985. Third release on TGCT, fourth overall (a rework of my first, Newbold Township, will probably come before TGC2), but I don't know how many courses I scrapped because I thought they were crap and not what I'd want to put out there. As for the burning question on the stream ... the fringe. I totally ripped that technique off from what Arctic Fury did on House of the Cliff. No real playability reason behind it, I just really liked the look. Reminded my of the closely mowed approach areas on some classic courses. He posted a brief blurb of how he did it a while back on the HB forums: AF's extended fringe tutorialIt's putzy and a little difficult to control. You have to take care not to make the fuzzy brush too big or cover the same spot too many times, otherwise pieces of green will form where you don't want them. I suspect that's kind of what happened with the random little bits of grid off green, wasn't enough to actually appear as green on screen, but close enough to make the grid appear. Didn't affect play at all, so I rolled with it. Not sure if I'll do it again, but felt it fit the feel of this course (and, yes, I did this technique it on every hole). Clean, classic and realistic is definitely my style, so glad you picked up on that and felt it worked. I have no clue how far I'm going in the contest, because I know my group is tough. Plus drivert and pablo put out great tracks in Group C and could very well be what I'm up against in the round of 16, if I make it to the knockout stage. Still, I felt like I took a step forward with this one, so it's extremely humbling and gratifying to get confirmation of that from one of the best designers we have.
